With K-Pop globalised, many Korean idols are now appearing on popular American television shows like “Good Morning America”, “Saturday Night Live (SNL)” and “The Late Late Show with James Cordon”. The likes of BTS, Blackpink and NCT as invaded the very country, which had strong influence and roots to many great Korean music and musicians.
BTS “Boy with Luv” on Saturday Night Live
It should not be unknown by now, but when BTS had their comeback with “Boy with Luv”, everyone knew that they would be the first Korean act/group to debut on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live”, one of the most popular comedy sketch series in the US.
BLACKPINK “Kill This Love” on The Late Late Show with James Cordon
This is not the first time a K-Pop group has appeared on The Late Late Show with James Cordon, but one thing is for sure – after BLACKPINK’s performance, James Cordon is most definitely a BLINK now. Don’t just check out their performance, check out BLACKPINK attempting one of James’ favourite game – Flinch!
BLACKPINK at Coachella
Oops, and while Coachella may not be an American TV Show, but a music festival, the girls still made history there as the first K-Pop girl group to ever perform at Coachella and we were all SHOOKED.
NCT127 “Cherry Bomb” on Good Morning America (GMA)
Appearing on the ABC morning show for the first time, NCT127 performed an all-time favourite hit “Cherry Bomb” on the show and even performed their new single (Which was only announced hours ahead of the performance!!) “Superhuman”.NCT 127 are the third K-pop group to appear on GMA, following appearances by BTS and BLACKPINK.
These groups had bravely stepped up where many top Korean idols had tried and failed. We can only expect this to be the beginning, and we can’t wait to see who will be next to try and ride the Korean Wave in America.
