The Star Awards 2024 took place at The Theatre at Mediacorp on the evening of April 21st, boasting a star-studded lineup including both local and international artistes. Beyond the live show, fans were treated to an upclose experience with their favourite celebrities at the Walk Of Fame.
Walk Of Fame
Besides local celebrities and international stars (SHINee’s Onew, Charmaine Sheh, Chen Bo-lin and Chao Chuan) that walked down the red carpet, the audience were treated to live acts by Tosh Rock, Desmond Ng, Jasmine Sokko and Nathan Hartono.
Onew emerged in all smiles as he walked down the red carpet to loud cheers from fans, stopping every now and then to interact with them, even signing lucky fans’ items (such as his Circle album, fan banners) and accepting a couple of fan letters.
During the interview at the Walk Of Fame, Onew expressed that it was his first time attending the Star Awards, thanking Shawols (SHINee’s fandom name) present who waited for him and he was really happy to receive so much support from the fans here in Singapore.
“I hope everyone has a happy day today.”
When Onew is not working, he prefers to sleep, in order to fully recharge himself. He expressed his willingness to take on new dramas should the opportunity arise, and he would like to appear in front of everyone with a good role.
Backstage LIVE
During the backstage interview with local personalities Xixi Lim and Shawn Thia, Onew mentioned that initially he felt nervous coming here, but gradually adapted to it and he’s really happy to be here, even more so when thinking about the award winners.
In this new chapter for Onew (under a new agency for his solo activities), he is currently preparing to meet his fans on stage once again, with his upcoming solo fanmeetings in Korea and Japan. A new album is also currently in the works, and he hopes that he will have plenty of opportunities to meet his fans in the near future.
“I’m having a fresh start as Onew and I will not stop myself from facing challenges. I will do my best to show you a better side of myself.”
As of the backstage interview time, Onew had already tried chicken rice and laksa, and he admitted that he is a fan of spicy food. He hopes to be able to try crab (pepper or chilli) on this trip as well (which afterwards he did!)
Award Ceremony
Taking on the role of an award presenter, Onew appeared on stage to present the award for the Most Popular Rising Stars. Answering fellow presenter Dennis Chew’s question, he attributed his popularity to the continued support from his fans.
“It is thanks to you all that I can stand on this spot, thank you so much.”
Beside the much-awaited announcement of winners for categories such as the Top 10 Most Popular Female and Male Artistes, one of the main highlights for the awards ceremony is Onew’s performance. SHINee’s main vocalist serenaded the audience with ‘You Are My Everything’ from hit Korean drama Descendants Of The Sun, and his own solo track off the VOICE album, ‘Your Scent’. This was Onew’s first performance on stage after 10 months, and it was evident that the audience–both fans and non-fans alike–were captivated by the sweet yet emotive depth of Onew’s vocals.
As per his promise, we definitely hope to see Onew back on Singapore shores soon.
