Taemin brought his captivating energy with his first-ever solo world tour, 2024 TAEMIN WORLD TOUR [Ephemeral Gaze] IN SINGAPORE, proving why he is also known as the idol of idols. TAEMates’ (Taemin’s fans) cheers never stopped from the moment he took to the stage to his final encore on 9th November.
Gaining his popularity from his group SHINee, Taemin made his solo debut with the EP “Ace” (2014) and left his fans hooked with each release ever since. Notable songs like ‘MOVE’ that have an androgynous touch led him to a deserving award and ‘WANT’ further solidified that touch in a more sensual way.
The show opened with the curtains dropping to reveal Taemin on an elevated platform, starting off strong with ‘Deja Vu’ from his latest album “ETERNAL”, followed by ‘Guilty’ where his iconic arm under shirt move during the chorus of elicited excited screams from the crowd, and ending that first segment with a rearranged version of ‘Advice’.
Taemin explained the meaning of Ephemeral Gaze during his talk segment. It meant that he wanted to show different perspectives of him to his fans and to let them know that, no matter what, Taemin will still be Taemin. It is also known to the fans of SHINee (or Shawols) that the members will always bring the rain along with them. That day was no exception, as there was a heavy downpour just before the concert started.
“Today is very rainy right? Sometimes I thought, “Why, when I did concert, everyday rainy.” So, it’s my destiny.”
Taemin showcased his impressive dance moves as he performed alone for ‘Goodbye’, with rose petals cascading the extended stage. Following up with ‘IDEA’ and ‘Heaven’, fans gasped at the spectacular closing where Taemin ‘fell’ backwards into the darkness.
Besides being known as a dance machine, Taemin also proved his singing prowess with ballads like ‘I’m Crying’ and ‘Clockwork’.
Taemin requested for everyone to turn on their phone flashlights and was taken aback upon seeing the beautiful sea of light. He explained that whenever he sees something so beautiful, he feels so surreal, like he is dreaming. Taemin introduced the next song which is apt for the current mood – ‘The Unknown Sea’.
Following a dance break by his touring dance crew, Taemin returned to the stage decked in all red with hair extensions, bringing power-packed performances of his latest releases, ‘G.O.A.T’ and ‘Sexy In The Air’, as well as ‘The Rizzness’.
Similar to other stops on the tour, Taemin also fulfilled fans’ song requests like ‘Sexuality’, ‘Press Your Number’, ‘Black Rose’ and ‘Already’, which brought much delight to the crowd.
He also performed a series of his iconic hits – ‘WANT’, ‘MOVE’ and ‘Criminal’, before ending with ‘Horizon’ from his latest album.
Changing into the white concert jersey, Taemin reappeared for an encore, starting with ‘Danger’, which is the title track from his very first album “ACE” – a homage to this year being his 10th solo debut anniversary.
As a surprise, Taemin serenaded TAEMates with ‘Pansy’, an exclusive for the Singapore stop. Taemin was in turn given a surprise with a VCR that Singapore fans prepared for him, celebrating his journey as a singer. Watching it, Taemin was visibly touched and thanked his fans for all the support and love that he had received so far.
Undeterred by the language barrier, Taemin tried his best to converse to fans in English throughout the concert. Whenever anything he said has been translated, he would repeat the interpreter’s words, thus making the audience coo.
Showcasing spectacular and sexy performances, fans are left with a lasting impression. This proves why Taemin is a veteran of K-pop and top live-acts in the industry today. Fans will surely be looking forward to his next appearance in Singapore, regardless as a solo act or together with the other members of SHINee.
