[INTERVIEW] SHAUN On Building ‘LAST PAGE’ And Rediscovering the Band Sound

Acclaimed singer-songwriter and producer SHAUN has unveiled “LAST PAGE”, an EP that reflects on the past while charting a bold new musical direction.

Featuring a stronger rock influence and a more expansive live-band sound, the record offers one of SHAUN’s most personal statements to date. We spoke with him about the making of the EP, its meaning, and the future of his music. Read more below!

Q: Hi SHAUN! You moved into a more rock-driven, band-centered sound for this EP. What pushed you in that direction at this point in your career?
SHAUN: After years of building and layering and experimenting, I made this EP by removing things rather than adding them. And when I did that, what was left was band music. Guitar. Drums. Real instruments in a room. That’s where I started, before I was a solo artist.
Q: How did working with a full band setup change the way you felt while creating music on this EP compared to your earlier releases?
SHAUN: For this album, I’ve imagined the live performance on stage with my band members, constantly visualizing that raw, live energy.
Q: As a self-producing artist, what was the most emotionally or creatively challenging moment while making “LAST PAGE”?
SHAUN: I believe all creations are ultimately records of our lives. I started writing the lyrics to “Diary” hoping that this record would feel like a letter written by my younger self to my present self. It’s about that moment when you happen to stumble upon an old diary and recall the exact air, emotions, and situations of that day, realizing, “Wow, I have grown so much.”
Q: If “LAST PAGE” represents a chapter ending, what kind of chapter do you think comes next for you musically?
SHAUN: The next chapter is about building on the foundation that I found during this EP production. Seeing what happens when I add new elements to something that’s already solid. I’m genuinely excited about it in a way I haven’t felt in a while.
