Sungha Jung returned to Singapore for his sixth headlining tour, Sungha Jung Live in Singapore 2017 last Saturday evening at Kallang Theatre to serenade his fans here with his fingerstyle renditions of hit songs and originals.
The concert began with the South Korean musician’s original, ‘On Cloud Nine’ from his latest album and his arrangement of The Carpenters’ ‘Close To You’. Sungha performed various covers from some of his favourite artistes, such as Eric Clapton’s ‘Tears In Heaven’, Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’, Norah Jones’ ‘Don’t Know Why’ and Sting’s ‘Englishman In New York’.
Sungha Jung delighted the audience when he performed Korean drama OST hits – ‘Stay With Me’ and ‘Beautiful’ from Goblin, as well as ‘Everytime’ from Descendants of the Sun. Also, as per past concerts where he performed local artistes’ songs, he chose one of Stefanie Sun’s timeless hit songs, ‘Encounter (遇见)’ this time round.
For his originals, he mainly performed tracks from his latest album, L’Atelier – ‘Seventh #9’, ‘Nocturne’, ‘L’Atelier’ (of course!), ‘Catching The Beat’, and not to forget ‘The Milky Way’ from his Monologue album.
2 lucky fans also walked away with his albums and a photograph with the musician himself, and one of the winners could not contain her excitement when she was face-to-face with Sungha Jung on stage!
The concert ended with an encore performance of Kit Chan’s ‘Home’, which was really apt as Singapore’s birthday is also just around the corner, and it was a heartwarming scene to hear the audience singing along.
