Spice Up Our Love – Interview with Lee Sang-yi and Han Ji-hyeon

The team at KAvenyou had the opportunity to have an email interview with actors Lee Sang-yi and Han Ji-hyeon who led the rom-com, Spice Up Our Lovea 2-episode spin-off of No Gain No Love on Prime Video.

Read on to find out more about the actors and their thoughts on the spin off!

KAvenyou (KA) : If you had the chance to write your own romance novel, which would be your favourite romance troupe to include?
LSY (Lee Sang-yi): I don’t prefer novels, but if I have the opportunity to write a novel now like this question asks, I would like to continue writing Spice Up Our Love. I’m very curious about how the next story will unfold.

HJH (Han Ji-hyeon): I read webtoons more than web novels. If I were to write a romance… I like a relationship where they dislike each other in the beginning but become lovers or forbidden love would be fun too. I think this kind of love story would be nice, where a couple who seem like they never would have ended up together met by coincidence and one of them coincidentally grows feelings for the other and that person shakes up the other person’s feelings, but then they’re unable to meet due to circumstances. Then they’re able to confirm their feelings for each other. I just imagined it, and it’s incredibly difficult. I have to plan it all out, but is there really such a thing as coincidence? Is it a coincidence? Or is it someone’s plan?
KA: Ja-yeon keeps her identity as a 19+ romance web novelist hidden, who do you think in the cast is the worst at keeping secrets and why?
LSY: That’s a very interesting question. We were all good at keeping secrets. No one has ever revealed a secret. Our teamwork was really great. (laughs)

HJH: There is no one to blame in No Gain No Love. If you want to hide something, you have to hide it better and act better, and I don’t think anyone was at fault. Wouldn’t it be more of my fault to go to the orphanage and ask if he liked me without checking if Ha-jun was there? We could have met in another place, but I went there due to my curiosity.
KA: Gyu-hyun becomes Ja-yeon’s anti-fan due her writing. As an actor, there will always be unkind comments, how do you deal with them?
LSY: Even if I read malicious comments, I don’t get easily swayed. I just say so that’s what they think and move on. I tend to sleep as soon as I lay my head down. I can’t remember what malicious comments I read yesterday.

HJH: Well… I just think that is how it is. I tend to accept things that need to be corrected or improved, or things that need to be accepted, but if malicious comments are rampant for no reason, it may hurt my feelings but I try not to create such situations as much as possible. I don’t think I have to be a role model to others, but I think I shouldn’t cause harm to others.
KA: No Gain No Love has been so popular and we are so excited for Spice Up Our Love, please let viewers know what they can expect in the spin-off!
LSY:
#1. Ridiculous but addictive comedy and romance.
#2. Actor Han Ji-hyeon and Lee Sang-yi’s harmony, the ensemble.
#3. The meaning of love and existence.

HJH: Okay, everyone. It’s not as racy…as you might think, but you should watch it alone. Hahaha. What’s worth looking forward to is seeing Ja-yeon who has entered her novel! How will she escape this world where her malicious commenter has become the male lead!!! But!! What is this feeling?
