At a press conference ahead of its September 12 premiere, director Hwang Seung-ki joined stars Seo Kangjun, Ahn Eun-jin, Lee Joo Ahn, and Jo Aram to introduce a romance that goes beyond the familiar butterflies of a first love. Ho is a sociable assistant manager at Hunmin Snacks who wins people over within minutes and believes marriage is the natural next step in their relationship. Mi-do, a once-promising rookie film director devoted to her work, finds her heart swayed by another man during a difficult period in her career. Rather than introducing Ho as a perfectly designed romantic lead, Seo was drawn to how human the character felt on the page. “The script was really, really interesting,” he shared. “What I found especially compelling was that the characters’ emotions were not always expressed directly through dialogue. I felt this would be a fascinating project where feelings could be conveyed through the eyes, actions and subtle nuances.”
He added that Ho felt “like a real person,” full of contradictions that make him feel like someone who could truly exist. That sense of realism becomes one of the key reasons to watch Seo Kangjun’s performance. Through quiet glances, restrained emotion and the weight of what remains unsaid, Seo brings depth to a man whose love is both steadfast and painfully human.

Ahn spoke about the emotional reality behind Mi-do’s choices, describing the series as one that reflects feelings many people experience in everyday life. She explained that Mi-do is in a state where love has become deeply embedded in her life, but the thrill has faded. As Mi-do encounters a new person and begins making difficult choices, the story follows her process of learning more about life, love and herself. Ahn also addressed the question many viewers may have: how can Mi-do waver when she has someone like Ho by her side? “I think many people will be curious about that,” she said. “But once you watch the series, you will understand the difficult period that Ho and Mi-do are going through.”

Seo also spoke warmly about his chemistry with Ahn, saying that once filming began, he could feel Mi-do’s emotions simply by looking into her eyes. “She was completely Mi-do,” he said. “I felt I only needed to receive what this wonderful actor had prepared.”

Lee shared his first impression of Tae-seung, saying, “When I first read the script, I couldn’t fully understand Tae-seung. But that made me even more curious. I wanted to understand him, and by the middle of the script, I was so immersed in him that filming became incredibly enjoyable.” His connection with Mi-do becomes one of the drama’s most intriguing emotional forces, as Tae-seung recognizes a part of Mi-do’s heart that no one else has seen. Seo described Tae-seung as someone who fills a void Ho has not been able to fill, making his presence both dangerous and irresistible.
Jo Aram brings a contrasting energy through Su-a, whose emotional honesty adds warmth and freshness to the story. Jo described Su-a’s greatest charm as her sincerity, explaining that even when love brings pain or hurt, Su-a does not dwell on it but finds the courage to express what she feels. Speaking about why Su-a is drawn to Ho, Jo pointed to his warmth and kindness, while Seo described Ho and Su-a’s relationship as one defined by stability and support.

Director Hwang Seung-ki emphasized that A Love Other Than Yours is not a story only for viewers who have experienced a long-term relationship. “At first, I was worried because a 10-year relationship is not a universal experience,” he said. “But while reading the script, I realized the focus is not simply on long-term relationships. It looks at the feelings people experience in moments of love as if under a microscope.”
Hwang added that the series explores different forms of love, including romance, family, colleagues and friendship, making it a story many viewers can connect with. For the director, the most important viewing point is the actors’ expressions. “There were moments when I was surprised, moved and even awed by their expressions,” he said, explaining that he focused the direction on showing those emotions as clearly as possible.
