What happens when the pursuit of culinary perfection becomes a journey of healing, connection and discovering what truly matters? Prime Video’s upcoming series Final Table serves up a heartfelt story that goes beyond the thrill of competition, bringing together world-class chefs whose rivalries reveal deeply personal struggles, unexpected bonds and the power of food to bring people together.
At a press conference ahead of its October 24 premiere, director Kim Doh-hoon was joined by stars Ahn Hyo-seop, Hong Hwa-yeon, Chang Ryul and Jung Eu-gene to share behind-the-scenes insights into a culinary survival drama filled with passion, rivalry and heart. Final Table follows Korean chefs from around the world as they compete in “The Table: K-Chef 2026,” a high-stakes competition to crown the finest Korean chef.
Among them are Kang Han (Ahn Hyo-seop), a world-class chef known as Chris K.; Choi Song-yi (Hong Hwa-yeon), who fights to save her late father’s restaurant, Famiglia; and Cha Woo-jin (Chang Ryul), a perfectionist star chef determined to reclaim his pride. As the competition intensifies, their personal journeys begin to intertwine, turning fierce rivalries into unexpected connections. With mouthwatering dishes, compelling characters and a story that explores what lies beyond winning, Final Table promises a culinary experience that satisfies both the appetite and the heart. Here are five reasons to add it to your watchlist:

1. Ahn Hyo-seop’s Meticulous Transformation into a World-Class Chef
Known for his performances in Business Proposal, Dr. Romantic and KPop Demon Hunters, Ahn Hyo-seop takes on his first chef role as Kang Han, a world-class culinary talent known as Chris K., whose precise cooking style reflects his unwavering dedication to every dish. Determined to portray a convincing professional chef, Ahn devoted himself to mastering everything from knife skills and wok techniques to plating. “Since I was playing a professional, I didn’t want there to be any flaws,” he shared.
Drawing inspiration from culinary competition shows, he also studied the composure, expressions and movements of real chefs. “What impressed me most was how calm they remained,” he explained, emphasizing Kang Han’s meticulous approach to cooking. For Ahn, however, the role was about more than technical perfection. He described Kang Han as someone who puts genuine meaning, sincerity and care into every dish, adding that the production beautifully captures those qualities on screen. With his detailed preparation and thoughtful performance, Ahn Hyo-seop brings both precision and emotional depth to a chef whose passion extends far beyond the kitchen.
2. Hong Hwa-yeon’s Heartwarming Journey of Growth
Hong Hwa-yeon stars as Choi Song-yi, a determined young woman fighting to keep her late father’s restaurant, Famiglia, alive while discovering her own path in the culinary world. Having previously appeared in a culinary drama, Hong shared that what drew her to Final Table was the opportunity to portray a character whose growth unfolds throughout the story.
“In my previous culinary drama, my character was already a chef, but this time, I was drawn to the fact that Song-yi has room to grow,” she explained. She also expressed her desire to bring out Song-yi’s kindness, diligence and strong sense of justice. Describing the series through the language of food, Hong chose “salty” as its defining flavor, explaining that Song-yi’s heartbreaking beginnings eventually give way to moving moments and tears. Through Hong’s heartfelt performance, Song-yi’s journey promises a touching story of resilience, perseverance and personal growth.

3. A Colorful Ensemble Fueled by Rivalry and Chemistry
Beyond the central characters, Final Table brings together a colorful ensemble whose distinct personalities and ambitions add depth to the story. Chang Ryul stars as Cha Woo-jin, a perfectionist star chef driven by an almost obsessive pursuit of excellence, while Jung Eu-gene portrays Seon Jeong-won, an executive producer at Pyeongyeon Media.
To bring Woo-jin’s culinary expertise to life, Chang underwent intensive training, taking two-hour cooking lessons every morning for nearly two months. “I realized just how difficult it was to handle professional cooking tools,” he shared, adding that he became particularly confident in preparing ingredients. He described Woo-jin’s obsession and determination as the driving forces behind his character, promising a chef whose cooking reflects exceptional precision and attention to detail. Despite playing fierce rivals, Chang and Ahn Hyo-seop developed a warm friendship on set.
Chang recalled how much they enjoyed talking and spending time together, while Ahn admitted that their close bond initially made him wonder how they would portray their rivalry. “But the moment the cameras started rolling, his eyes completely changed,” Ahn shared, teasing the intense chemistry between the two chefs. Jung Eu-gene highlighted the strength of the ensemble, sharing that she was drawn to the script’s immersive storytelling and vividly written characters. “Every character felt alive, and I found it fascinating how each person had a different way of living,” she explained. Together, the diverse personalities and relationships add fresh energy and emotional layers to the culinary competition.
4. Director Kim Doh-hoon Brings His Passion for Cooking to Life
Known for Moon Embracing the Sun, director Kim Doh-hoon brings his long-standing passion for cooking to Final Table, serving as both writer and director. Having explored the culinary world since 2014, Kim drew on his knowledge and fascination with the profession to create a distinctive culinary drama. Reflecting on the series’ origins, Kim shared that his interest in the culinary profession inspired him to develop the story. What began as an outline eventually grew into a complete screenplay.
“Every line of dialogue and every scene description required an understanding of cooking, which made the writing process particularly challenging,” he explained. Calling the series a bold creative experiment, Kim anticipated that viewers might even wonder whether they were watching a variety show or a drama. His commitment to authenticity extended to the cast’s preparation. Kim encouraged the actors not only to develop their technical skills but also to meet and speak with professional chefs to understand their mindset.
“I believe that the more time actors spend thinking like the people they portray, the more naturally they become those characters,” he shared. Their preparation was so thorough, he added, that professional cooking doubles were hardly needed. Drawing on his extensive exploration of the culinary world, Kim also sought to capture the identity of Korean cuisine through globally experienced chefs and their different approaches to K-food. Rather than offering definitive answers, he hopes the series will spark conversations about the meaning of food, culture and the people behind every dish.

5. Beyond the Competition: A Heartfelt Story of Food, Family and Love
While Final Table delivers the excitement of a high-stakes culinary competition, its greatest appeal lies in the heartfelt stories unfolding beyond the kitchen. The series explores not only rivalry and ambition but also family, love and the unexpected connections that help people heal. Chang Ryul shared that the screenplay’s sincerity was what first drew him to the project. “What moved me was that the story goes beyond competition to explore family and love,” he explained.
Ahn Hyo-seop echoed the sentiment, praising the script for its thoughtful exploration of people and relationships, with the director’s years of experience and personal reflections woven throughout the story. Hong Hwa-yeon expressed hope that viewers would feel the warmth of the story and enjoy it with family and friends. Ahn Hyo-seop also hoped that audiences would find both entertainment and emotional resonance in the series, while Chang Ryul and Jung Eu-gene shared their wishes for viewers to experience the affection and joy poured into its creation.
Encouraging audiences to enjoy Final Table as they would a delicious meal, Director Kim described the series as a fresh take on the familiar world of cooking, crafted with great care. From dazzling dishes and fierce competition to heartfelt moments of growth and healing, Final Table offers a warm and satisfying story that brings people together.
