Adapted from the popular webtoon, “Reawakened Man” is a brisk film that captures the story’s key moments. Fans will find plenty to enjoy while newcomers can easily follow along.

The film opens on a relatable premise: the pressures many young Koreans face in a tough job market. Our protagonist’s Seok Hwan (Koo Kyo-Hwan) job struggles take an unexpected turn when he mysteriously dies one evening, only to wake up and discover he has the power of resurrection. With the support of his best friend Young-ha (Kang Ki-young), Seok Hwan tries to make sense of his strange new ability, but things quickly become more complicated when the mysterious Black (Shin Seung-ho) begins hunting him down. From there the film invites the audience to piece together what’s going on and anticipate where the story is headed, which keeps things engaging throughout.

The CGI isn’t the film’s strongest point so viewers expecting blockbuster-level effects may want to adjust their expectations. But that’s not really what this movie is about. “Reawakened Man” is best enjoyed as an easygoing watch: sit back, relax, and laugh along. Best described as an action sci-fi with a comedic twist, the film benefits greatly from the director’s playful approach. Witty lines are sprinkled throughout and several moments drew genuine laughter from the audience.
