| Q: What are the action scenes like for you? |
| Rowoon: I had a lot of discussions withDirector Choo about my action style, and it was important that each character had a go-to weapon. I think it will be fun for you to figure out who uses which weapon. For me, I worked really hard on the action scenes. I’m very proud of them and want to say that our action scenes are very authentic and raw. |
| Q: It looks like you had a lot of fun filming, and you’re working with two very tall male co-stars. What was the chemistry like on set? |
| Shin Yeeun: First of all, we treated every scene on set as important. We didn’t want to limit ourselves to a set number of takes. Instead, we focused on doing as many as needed to get the best out of ourselves. Director Choo and the veteran actors supported us a lot. They gave us helpful feedback, and sometimes even called me aside to offer advice. I could really feel Rowoon’s strong passion for acting, both during filming and while promoting the show. I was touched by how sincere he was about every performance. Seoham is someone whose acting truly moved me to tears. His love and passion for what he does run so deep, and I could see how much he genuinely admires acting. Both of them felt like senior actors to me because of their sincerity and commitment to their work. |
| Q: Rowoon, you are headed for military service, while Seoham, this is your first series after completing your service. Please share how it feels to appear in “The Murky Stream“. |
| Rowoon: I was actually supposed to begin my military service in July, but due to certain circumstances, it was postponed a bit. I think it was a blessing in disguise. Being able to promote a project you’re part of is a big part of my responsibility, so I’m really happy that I get to do that. I’m grateful to be here and to share wonderful things about “The Murky Stream“! Seoham: Working on “The Murky Stream” after my military service, it’s like I’ve gained so many father figures, including the director, and that really touches my heart. When I see the cast and director, it feels like I’m back home. While waiting around our trailers, we would often sit and talk, and the veteran actors would come out to help us monitor our scenes. Being on set was an amazing experience. I was so happy every day. Working with Rowoon has also been meaningful. Although he’s younger than me, I’ve learned so much from him. I want to take this opportunity to thank him, and I believe he’s going to do really well in the military. |
| Q: Can you tell us more about creating the filming sets? |
| Director Choo Changmin: Not only is it difficult to create that physical space, but when you are filming near water, it becomes even more challenging because of high and low tides, as well as rainfall. It was indeed a very challenging task. During pre-production, we considered shooting on a sound stage and using CGI. However, we ultimately decided to find a real location, do some landscaping work, and add only limited CGI. I think it was the right decision, and I’m very proud of our decision. |
| Q: What was it like working with Director Choo? |
| Shin Yeeun: I first met Director Choo at my company’s office while I was rehearsing for another series. At the time, I hadn’t been cast in “The Murky Stream” yet. He happened to be there, so I greeted him briefly. He asked me to take off my mask, and I explained that I wasn’t wearing any makeup since I was in rehearsal. He said that was fine and that he just wanted to see my face. I realized then that he is always thinking about his work. Even while just passing by, he was considering whether someone might fit a character. I was so happy when I was eventually cast in the role. |
| Q: Please tell us what really drew you in to “The Murky Stream“, that made you want to take on this project? |
| Director Choo Changmin: The period pieces that we might know are usually focused on kings, the royal life inside the palace and the noblemen. But what really drew me in when I read Writer Chun Sungil’s script is that it is about the low-lives. The people who used to reside around the Hangang area, who formed these groups that are essentially really bandits. I was just really drawn into that life. |
