IVE Makes Comeback With ‘IVE EMPATHY’, Taking Aim At The K-Pop Scene With A Confident ‘Attitude’

‘MZ Generation’s Wannabe Icon’ IVE is setting its sights on the K-pop scene with a bold ‘attitude’, with the release of their third mini-album, IVE EMPATHY.

On 13th January, IVE pre-released Rebel Heart, one of the album’s double title tracks, heating up anticipation ahead of their comeback. Rebel Heart is a song that portrays the solidarity and march of rebels with diverse stories. The track has received praise for offering comfort, empathy and inspiration to countless music fans worldwide. IVE also proved their lasting influence by securing six wins on music shows, further cementing their title as ‘digital queens’.

IVE is set to showcase a contrasting charm with the release of their other title track, Attitude. This track samples Suzanne Vega’s Tom’s Diner and features dazzling synth sounds, a melody familiar to the public, and an addictive chorus. The lyrics convey the message that while certain situations may be unchangeable, one’s attitude is always within their control—emphasizing a playful and confident outlook in the face of unchangeable circumstances.

The accompanying music video for Attitude visually depicts how IVE’s unique approach transforms a ‘Loveless Society’. The members stand out among mechanical, lifeless individuals, maintaining their distinct attitude, highlighting their bold and charismatic appeal. The choreography, featuring the signature ‘Wonyoung Turn’ and dynamic performances, promises a visually exciting spectacle.

Aside from the title tracks, the new album includes six songs: FLU, You Wanna Cry, Thank U and TKO, among others. The album was produced through a collaborative ‘song camp’ led by Starship Entertainment’s vice president and executive producer, Seo Hyun-joo, along with top-tier composers, further enhancing the anticipation for yet another high-quality IVE release.

As IVE continues to broaden their musical spectrum, Attitude has garnered the most attention. The song’s bold and self-assured lyrics, such as “Even if you hate me / I might still like you / You’ll fall in love by the end of the song” and “I’ll decide my own mood / I’m that attitude,” fully convey IVE’s signature theme of ‘self-confidence’. Additionally, the scratch-off ticket in the video, displaying the phrase ‘No Luck But Lucky’, hints at the track’s overall mood, further elevating expectations for the full release.

IVE EMPATHY is an album that builds on IVE’s core identity of ‘independent self-confidence’ while incorporating a new layer of depth. Since their debut, IVE has emphasized that true love starts with self-love. Now, they expand this concept beyond self-affirmation, embracing the theme of ‘empathy’ for others. By continuing to spread their positive mindset of ‘self-confidence’ while introducing a new narrative of ‘empathy’, IVE is expected to deliver an even more profound message.
