SORN has collaborated with Hong Seok for her latest single, ‘crazy stupid lovers’, that was released on May 17th at 12AM (KST). KAvenyou had a chat with SORN to find out more about her collaboration with Hong Seok, her appearance for the upcoming WATERBOMB SINGAPORE 2024, as well as her plans lined up for the rest of the year.
1. Will you describe yourself as a “crazy stupid lover” when you’re deeply in love?
I AM! I rarely fall in love with anyone or anything, but once I do I go CRAZY! I go all in for my loved ones and I will do anything for that person.
2. Having known Hong Seok for a long time and choosing to collaborate with him for “crazy stupid lovers”, are there any interesting memories you can share from being in the same company together for such a long period of time?
When Hong Seok came over to Cube I was actually already a part of CLC so we didn’t train together since the start. The person who I have to thank for helping us become close is actually Lisa from BLACKPINK. In the past, she and Hong Seok starred in the same show where they became friends. I was then able to meet Hong Seok at a friends gathering and that’s where we got close! So I gotta thank Lisa for making this happen!
3. Are there any interesting episodes between both of you while preparing for “crazy stupid lovers”?
I’m really bad at acting and am always afraid to act in anything. But Hong Seok’s acting experience really helped me a lot throughout the entire shoot. From teaching me how to make eye contact with my acting partner, to how to laugh naturally on camera, and many more. I remember there was a scene where we had to laugh at each other and I felt so awkward because there wasn’t a script or anything planned. So I asked him, ‘In this type of scenario, what do you do? What can I say to deliver a good laugh?’ He was so natural with it and immediately started a random conversation that actually made me laugh. Some of the things he said were, ‘Yesterday night I had kimchi jjigae ;P’, ‘Sorn doesn’t know how to laugh ;P’ at one point he even began singing Singapore’s national anthem out of nowhere. From that experience, he taught me that acting is really not that complicated.
4. Besides Hong Seok, which other PENTAGON member will you love to collaborate with if given the opportunity and why?
I would love to work with KINO and HUI. When I was still with my ex-company we were all really close because we all trained together. My chemistry with HUI when singing has always been the best since young, and since KINO is doing things on his own with his new company, I would love to collaborate with them. I think that it will be so much fun after all we’ve been through together when we were all still with our groups!
5. SORN is announced as part of the line-up for WATERBOMB SINGAPORE 2024. Will you be bringing your “Crazy Stupid Lovers” performance there as well and can you give us any spoilers for your stage?
For WATERBOMB SINGAPORE 2024, you guys will be seeing a totally different side of ‘SORN’. I will be bringing a more fierce, girl crush, and sexy side of me to the stage that I think no one has ever seen before. I’m also planning to perform some of my new tracks from my upcoming EP before the actual release too. So if you’re coming to the festival, you guys will be THE FIRST to catch a glimpse of my new EP!
6. Are there any exciting plans lined up for SORN for the rest of the year that we can look forward to?
I’ll be performing at several music festivals, and also have an EP lined up later this year. I’m so excited for everyone to hear all the songs in my new EP because I’ve worked really hard on them with my producers in LA and I know that all of my fans have been waiting for it, so please stay tuned to that!
