Read on to hear more from Seo Kangjun and Ahn Eun-jin, including the scenes that stayed with them, what drew them to the series and what they hope audiences will take away from it.

Q: What attracted you to this series, and what do you think makes it different from a typical romance drama?
Ahn Eun-jin: When I read the script, I felt like it was so true to real life. Everything from the situations the characters find themselves in to the emotions you experience when you’re in a relationship felt incredibly realistic, and it made me think that we could tell a love story that a lot of people would be able to relate to. Also, I had no reason to hesitate after I learned that I would be acting alongside Kang-jun. The script made me think, “Can a script get any more real than this?” A lot of relationships you see in a TV series can feel realistic, but more often than not, they tend to focus equally on more romantic sides of things. What I think sets our series apart is that, right from the beginning, you can really feel the history of a couple who have been together for 10 years.
Seo Kang-jun: What I instantly loved about the script was that the characters didn’t fully express their true feelings and thoughts. They didn’t fully reveal their deeper emotions and opinions about the other person. I felt I could convey so much more depth through my eyes or even the smallest action, and that made me realize just how different this series was from other dramas. There are many great romance dramas that tell hopeful stories and focus on the good times in a relationship, but what sets our series apart is how realistic and honest it feels about the things people actually experience when they’re in a relationship. That made me think there would be so much for audiences to relate to.
Q: Was there a particular scene or line in the script that stayed with you from the very beginning?
Seo Kang-jun: I think it was an earlier part of the series. There’s a line where Namgung says to Mi-do, “You should go on and live the life you want. That suits you.” It could sound like Namgung is just being thoughtful toward Mi-do, but to me, it felt that the line carried a lot of unresolved emotions between the two characters and things that they were not willing to let go of. I felt that while he was saying it out of genuine care for Mi-do, the line also contained this almost muddy, tangled feeling between the two of them. It showed both how much he cared about Mi-do and how unable he was to be honest about his feelings, and that really stayed with me.

Q: What is something you’ve learned from each other while working on this series?
Seo Kang-jun: I’m very introverted, and when I run into a problem or an obstacle, I tend to dig really deep into it and struggle to pull myself out, which I see as one of my weaknesses. But Eun-jin can embrace everything. She knows how to take in the atmosphere on set as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the people around her. Simply put, she’s incredibly good with people, and that’s something I really wanted to learn from her.
Q: Lee Joo Ahn and Jo Aram play two important characters who have a major impact on your relationship throughout the series. Could you tell us about working with them and what audiences can look forward to from their performances?
Ahn Eun-jin: In fact, I actually share almost as many scenes with Joo Ahn as I do with Kang-jun. I had mostly seen his sexy side on TV before this project, and he starts off here with that same captivating charm. But then you’ll begin to see an adorable, almost puppy-like side of him that makes you think, “Oh, what am I going to do with him?” and want to take care of him. I think everyone will fall in love with his character once they get to see this side of him. Just like me, Joo Ahn is very outgoing and energetic, so I hope you’ll look forward to the high-energy chemistry between us.
Seo Kang-jun: As for Aram, she plays a character that Namgung wishes he could be more like. From Namgung’s point of view, she has great inner strength and a clear sense of what she believes in, while at the same time, being incredibly pure at heart and honest. I think these are qualities that Namgung wishes he had. He also finds her really impressive and amazing. In terms of the chemistry between the two characters, they share some really sweet, playful moments. Namgung likes teasing her, and while he thinks she’s admirable and impressive, he also finds her really cute because of how pure-hearted she is. So I think you can look forward to some playful, bubbly dynamic between the two characters.

Q: Looking back at your career so far, what kind of role are you hoping to challenge yourself with next?
Ahn Eun-jin: There’s a type of character that I’ve always dreamed of playing and feel like I can do a great job with. And there’s always a genre that I’ve always been drawn to. I’ve been deeply interested in modern Korean history since high school. I’ve already had the chance to really immerse myself in the Joseon era, so I’d love to do a project set in a period in the late 19th century or after. I have this confidence that I could do a role like that really well. So, please give me a call.
Q: Is there anything you’d like to say to fans around the world who have been looking forward to A Love Other Than Yours? And what do you hope audiences will take away from A Love Other Than Yours after watching the series?
Ahn Eun-jin: The series starts off as a love story between Namgung and Mi-do that is set in Korea, but ultimately, this is a story that anyone who has ever been in love or is in love, no matter where they are in the world, can relate to. Mi-do and Namgung have been together for 10 years, and they start wondering, “Is marriage the next step for us?” But then Mi-do is experiencing some uncertainty with her career. These are all things that we deal with in real life. Your career is going nowhere, but can marriage be your escape? I think these are questions that people in relationships, no matter where they are in the world, can relate to. Our series explores these questions in a very realistic and straightforward way, at times delving deeply into them as the characters grapple with them head-on and grow through those experiences. I think everyone will be able to relate to the story, so I hope you’ll look forward to it. In the end, we’re all the same. I think that’s something a lot of viewers will relate to.
Seo Kang-jun: Building on what Eun-jin said about audiences around the world, I think love and life are universal. In this series, you’ll see Mi-do and Namgung, and then the people around them—Tae-seung, Soo-ah, their families, their colleagues and the people in the film industry. We see how Mi-do and Namgung grow and change through these encounters, and there’s also a process of learning to face themselves. It’s a story about life. The series uses their relationship as a way to shine light on life and showcase how people grow through what they experience in life.

A Love Other Than Yours  will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on September 12!
