Homegrown director Jack Neo is back again this Chinese New Year holidays with another movie – The Lion Men. Following the success of Ah Boys To Men (ABTM) and its sequel, most of its original cast were reunited once again for this movie.
As compared to previous films, The Lion Men touches upon a totally new genre never tried by Jack Neo before – incorporating action and dance into one movie. The production team is also much larger than before – with professionals required to train the casts for the filming of the lion dance moves, as well as the hip hop dance scenes.
As such, The Lion Man also boasts an impressive cast. Besides familar faces like Tosh Zhang, Wang Weiliang, Noel Yap and Maxi Lim from ABTM fame, there are also many new faces such as the pretty female lead Eva Cheng, Black Hawk’s leader Jasper Lai, model-turned-actor Alex Lim and Campus Superstar contestant Rao Zijie.

For someone who knew nuts about lion dance, this movie was definitely an eye-opener to me – I am unaware of the amount of hard work that goes behind the scenes of performing lion dance routines, which the cast portrayed well. What I really liked about the movie is how each lion dance troupe is able to evolve the traditional art of lion dance to keep up with the everchanging society. What I thought seems pretty awkward is how obvious the sponsors’ brands appears so blatantly at various scenes, though some of those would have provided some comical relieve to the viewers.
In collaboration with The Lion Men, PTO Games Pte Ltd has created The Lion Men game, which is available for free download on both the App Store and Google Play. The Lion Men Game is a simple platform game where the player will jump around to collect oranges and ang paos to score points. There are 20 rounds and the duration of each round is around 1 minute. In every stage, there will be 3 ang paos for the players to collect and once all 3 are collected, the player will receive a random voucher. There are 2 leaderboards – Top 50 Lion Men and Friends where players will be able to see where they rank.
