Doh Kyungsoo made his long-awaited return to Singapore with his first ever solo Fan Concert – DOH KYUNG SOO ASIA FAN CONCERT TOUR “BLOOM” IN SINGAPORE on 8th August 2024. The show opened with a vase of flowers on a table, with the Fancon name ‘BLOOM’ on the screen behind.
Starting off with ‘Mars’, fans cheered especially loudly when Kyungsoo belted the high notes for the ending chorus.
Kyungsoo proceeded to greet the fans who filled up the Singapore Indoor Stadium, stating that it felt like it has been a long time since he was last in Singapore. Like the name of the Fancon, Kyungsoo hoped that he and the fans would blossom together. He noticed that everyone dressed according to the dress code, which was sky blue. “It seems that we can all bloom together!”
The first segment of the Fancon was “KYUNGSOO IN BLOOM”, where he had to choose among the flowers displayed on screen and talk more about the keyword that was shown with each corresponding bloom. For the keyword ‘Waiting’, Kyungsoo talked about the first things to do in Singapore, which was meeting his fans and enjoying local delicacies.
Fans were treated to a series of photos of what Kyungsoo had already eaten in Singapore thus far, like chilli and pepper crab, cockles and the traditional kaya toast with runny egg. Kyungsoo added that he wanted to try Hainanese chicken rice but had not gotten the opportunity to eat it yet, so his dinner would be that. However shortly after, he changed his dinner plans to laksa!
For the keyword ‘Memories’, Kyungsoo had to do a trivia quiz related to the ‘Popcorn’ music video, and he was impressed at how his fans knew the answers to the most random aspects of the music video. Kyungsoo lost the challenge so he had to do a forfeit, which was to wear a pair of popcorn shades and hold a box of popcorn, and to pose for fans.
And for the keyword ‘A relationship formed by affection’, Kyungsoo discussed his drama roles. His upcoming project, “A Sculpture City”, will be his first foray into a villain role since his debut.
The next segment was “I ONLY LOOK AT YOU”, where Kyungsoo read out messages and fan requests that were written on sticky notes on a board. Answering a fan’s question on if he had watched the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ movie, he replied a resounding “yes” and added that it was a very interesting movie. Kyungsoo also fulfilled fans’ wishes of singing snippets of requested songs, such as EXO’s ‘Don’t Go’, ‘Tell Me (What Is Love)’, ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘History’.
For the “TO DO LIST” segment, Kyungsoo had to pick songs to sing, but he ended up singing every song! The songs were: ‘It’s Love’, ‘The View’, Youngji’s ‘Small Girl’, ‘Wonder’, ‘Rose’ and f(x)’s ‘Goodbye Summer’. It was a pleasant surprise to listen to him perform collaboration tracks and songs not included in the setlist, which we would otherwise not get to hear any time soon.
The concert aspect of “BLOOM” resumed with ‘Simple Joys’, ‘That’s Okay’, ‘I Do’ and ‘My Dear’, which mostly were from his latest “BLOSSOM” 3rd Mini Album. Kyungsoo continued to perform on the extended stage while seated on a stool, serenading the audience with ‘Ordinary Days’ and ‘Good Night’. We were blown away by Kyungsoo’s soulful rendition for ‘About Time’, a song with lyrics that he personally liked a lot.
The cheeky EXO member also got fans seated on different sections to ‘pit’ against one another during a cheering competition to see whose cheers were the loudest. It was fair to say that from the VIP seats at the floor to Cat 3 seats on the 3rd floor, the fans were almost equally loud! After hyping up the crowd, Kyungsoo got fans singing along with him together for ‘Somebody’.
“Sing it together, Popcorn!” For the encore, Kyungsoo returned to stage to perform ‘Popcorn’. He was also surprised with a fan project VCR, with Singapore fans also taking the chance to showcase the local delicacies while delivering their heartfelt messages to him. Kyungsoo also remarked that the food that were shown on screen looked very good, and he reminded fans once more that dinner would be laksa.
“Today’s going to be laksa right, you know? Please enjoy and I’m going to enjoy it too!”
The Fancon ended off with a phototaking session and Kyungsoo took the chance to belt out the chorus of ‘Popcorn’ once again after reading the message printed on the fan project slogan.
Kyungsoo is indeed an all-rounded entertainer – besides his impressive acting roles on the small screens and movies such as “The Moon” and the “Along With The Gods” sequels, his vocal prowess was on full display during the Fancon, when he could just belt out any song upon request. Not to mention, Kyungsoo might look like an introvert, but after attending the Fancon and seeing how he interacted with the audience, we fully understood why he is actually an extrovert, and we fully enjoyed the night with him.
