The leading ladies of the currently airing tvN drama ‘Cheongdam International High School’, were in town for the Singapore leg of the ‘CIHStvNStarTour’ last weekend. The teen thriller series tells the tale of rivals Kim Hye-In (Lee Eun Saem) and Baek Jen-Na (Kim Ye Rim, Red Velvet), who are respectively the witness and prime suspect to the murder case of a high school girl.
As this is Ye Rim’s first lead role in a drama series, the multitalented girl group member named her first day of shoot as her most memorable; she had to pour a bottle of wine on Eun Saem which was really nerve-wrecking for her. Ye Rim also maturely shared that through her role in this drama series, she has learnt how to become more understanding of others when she sees the different characters having different reasons for acting in a certain way.
For Eun Saem, she divulged that she put in a lot of effort in her acting in order for people to understand her character which was unlike most of the K-drama female lead characters. There are those with strong presence and those with scars that give them strong personalities, however, when others view Kim Hye-In, she is evil rather than pitiful. That is why Hye-In’s character is intriguing.
During the Press Conference, both actresses shared their excitement to try Singapore’s local delicacies. Eun Saem stated that she would like to try Chilli Crab while Ye Rim excitedly revealed that she did her research and would like to try our delicious Kaya Toasts.
When asked about the difficulties faced during filming, Eun Saem shared that it was the cold for her as the series was filmed in winter. On the other hand, Ye Rim found the filming schedule was the hardest, as they had scenes at luxury shops and restaurants, and so as to avoid the crowds, they had to film in the wee hours of the day.
Throughout the Press Conference, we could see the actress’ close relationship with each other even though the drama was their first time working together. Eun Saem mentioned that she fondly remembers holding her laughter while having scenes with Ye Rim and their many chats together during filming breaks. Ye Rim elaborated on some of their memorable experiences together too, like meeting off set a few times for meals and taking the trendy Black&White Photo Booth pictures together. She ended her English ment cutely with “I always have a fun time whenever I hang out with her. Finished!” to the laughter of everyone in the room.
The actresses were also asked to choose five Korean words to describe what Singapore was to them. Ye Rim chose “Whenever Healing” and shared the explanation in English: “In English, it means always healing, always relaxing. With all the beautiful gardens, it would be great to take a walk during the day. And it will be fun to see all the colourful lights in the night, so I will describe Singapore as ‘Whenever healing’” the Red Velvet member explained.
For Eun Saem, she answered “Comfortable Rest Time.” This was as during her recent holiday trip to Singapore in April, she witnessed people in here having a peaceful time and thought it was a nice city. She was happy to be back in Singapore again, this time with Ye Rim through this opportunity.
