We Won The Lottery! Receiving Roses Personally From Byeon Woo Seok

The press conference for Byeon Woo Seok’s 2024 Asia Fanmeeting Tour – “SUMMER LETTER” was held on 30 June, the afternoon of his first fanmeeting in Singapore.

Decked in a matching black suit with white shirt, Byeon Woo Seok appeared at the press conference venue with a bag of yellow roses and handed them personally to each media representative that was present at the press conference. We were in awe at how tall Byeon Woo Seok is in real life.

Arriving the day before his fanmeeting, Byeon Woo Seok shared that he slept well the night before and was very happy to be here in Singapore. He couldn’t wait to meet his Singapore Woo Che Tongs (aka Tongtongs, the name of Byeon Woo Seok’s fans) in the evening, while feeling both excited and nervous.

As the title of his recent drama is called “Lovely Runner”, when asked where in Singapore he would run to, he replied that he would be running to the fanmeeting venue. (He is really very excited to meet his Singapore Tongtongs!)

On Meeting Singapore (And Overseas) Fans

He came to Singapore with only one goal in mind – to have a lot of fun and create wonderful memories with his Singapore Tongtongs. Byeon Woo Seok also promised to make the entire duration of the fanmeet worthwhile for his fans as he knows that they have spent a lot of time and effort to see him.

Of course, Chili Crab and Chicken Rice is on the top of Byeon Woo Seok’s list of Singapore food to try while visiting the country. He even revealed that he has a friend that lives in Singapore who gave him a list of local food which he will try as much as he can during his time in Singapore.

When asked about something that he has been obsessed with lately, Byeon Woo Seok responded that ever since he kicked off his Asia Fanmeeting Tour, he has been obsessed with the culture and the way people express their love differently in each country. (Our oppa is such a sweetheart, making an effort to understand cultures of his fans from different countries!)

On Drama Filming

Byeon Woo Seok also shared that he keeps up his positive energy by focusing on the process and effort that he puts in, instead of focusing on the results that he has no control over. This is something that helps him maintain his positive energy.

Prior to “Lovely Runner”, Byeon Woo Seok shared that he was in other dramas of other genres like action and fantasy. However after taking on the role of Sun Jae in “Lovely Runner”, it changed his perspective a lot. It was the first time he got so immersed and emotionally attached to the character. He is open to all film genres, and does not want to choose his work and genre based on the character, even though he feels that there is a higher chance of him choosing rom-com dramas.

Aside from the role of Sun Jae from “Lovely Runner”, the other memorable project to Byeon Woo Seok was the film, “20th Century Girl”, where he acted as Poong Woonho. He revealed that this was the film that helped him overcome his phobia of cameras as well and helping him get over his trauma that he had at the point in time. (We are really grateful he pulled through! Otherwise, we would never had the chance to meet him as Sun Jae.)

On a lighter topic, it was pointed out to him that he was seen taking photos with watermelon during his trip to Taipei for his fanmeeting. He revealed that he happened to be in a grocery store and as he loves watermelon a lot, he spotted a watermelon with a size so huge that it was a rare sight in Korea, hence he decided to take a photo with it.

Often playing roles with tragic endings or one-sided love that did not succeed in his past works, Byeon Woo Seok was really happy that he finally played a role that had an happy ending in “Lovely Runner”. Despite that, when he received the script for Episode 16, Byeon Woo Seok expressed that he was a little sad and the emotions were overwhelming to him. He even called up the scriptwriter to have a long chat about him feeling sad that the drama was coming to an end.

Byeon Woo Seok was really thankful that due to the success of “Lovely Runner”, he could have the opportunity to travel and meet his fans from all over the world. Ending off the press conference, he shared that just as his fans mentioned that he is a gift to them, he equally feels that his fans are a gift to him too. The journey thus far has not been easy but thanks to the unwavering support and love from his fans, he is confident that he will do his best and the support from his fans will keep him going in the long journey ahead.
