[REVIEW] Your Letter – A Heartwarming Tale of Friendships

The movie begins and you’re instantly captivated by Lee Suhyun (AKMU) as her vocals rings clear through the cinema, making you think that the movie is going to be a beautiful one; not going to lie, it got me a little emotional. Having not seen the webtoon, I was going in completely blind with zero expectations.

Your Letter starts as a heartbreaking story where the lead, Lee So-ri (voiced by Lee Suhyun), changed schools due to being bullied. Viewers are then brought along on a journey as she finds an anonymous letter that not only introduces the new school to her but also helps her find new friends along the way. As the movie progressed, I was really impressed with the animation styles, it was clear that more effort was used in the letters to convey the message that they were made with care for the intended reader.

One thing that really stood out to me was the use of darker themes, i.e. spotlighting the vicious bullying within the Korean school system. While we’ve seen many shows that has utilised this storyline, I really liked how the movie shows two sides of the problem – both negative and positive. It gives a message of hope to those that have been bullied to continue staying strong and to stand up for themselves.

Overall, Your Letter is an easy watch with an adorable childhood friendship story that gives you a feel-good feeling after. While I can’t judge that it’s an accurate interpretation of the webtoon, I can definitely say that it’s a movie everyone can enjoy! And it’s currently available at Golden Village as a GV exclusive for a limited time, ensure you catch it before it’s too late!
