When an investigative news team crosses the point of no return, they will be given one chance to save their careers in Unmasked – an edge-of-your-seat Korean thriller coming January 15, exclusively to Disney+! Read on to find out the casts shared at the press conference!
The press conference was attended by the director, the two main leads with the addition of Joo Jonghyuk, who plays Kang Giho, the bubbly assistant director of the Trigger Team. During the photo session, all 3 of the actors posed suavely with the trigger pose onstage. Memorably, the stage was also carefully decorated as if it was the set of the investigative news programme which made this press conference particularly fun.

Director You Sundong Q: What is Unmasked all about? A: Unmasked is about very sly villains that the police and prosecutors cannot catch. So there is an investigative news team who would just push in with their cameras to make sure that they exposed the bad guys to the rest of us. So it’s going to be a very dynamic story!
Kim Hyesoo Q: This is your first time collaborating with Disney+, what is it about this project that drew you in? A: This was at the end of my production for Under the Queen’s Umbrella and I worked on a lot of dark stories and dark projects. But what I really liked about Unmasked is that although it deals with these crimes, the entire story is actually very quirky, fun and exciting. It is very light-hearted and so witty, it has the perfect balance. So that’s why I chose to take part in the series.
Jung Sungil Q: Disrespectful and rude, a ‘nepo’ hire producer Han Do. Just from those descriptions, it is obvious that this character will show a new side of you. Could you elaborate on your character? A: Han Do is very socially inept. He has zero faith in humanity, that is why he really gives all his love to animals. He used to work for another team, but reluctantly crash landed on Team Trigger so he is a little old to be called a rookie. He starts working with the team and uncovers all the quirks and potential within himself thanks to Soryong and his character really develops.
Joo Jonghyuk Q: Jonghyuk is the field producer of the team, so he probably was always on set filming a lot of different scenes. So what was it like to be at that set? A: Well, it was grandiose. I felt that it was very meticulously made down to the very little details. I really felt like I was in an office for an investigative news team! All the tables for the producers were prepared differently and really showed their personalities. My character is in an amateur band with my friends and there was a guitar on my table. So I knew right away that that table was mine.
Kim Hyesoo Q: What was your first impression of Jonghyuk? A: I was quite surprised because I almost thought he would be this baby; a young and very capable actor but he’s very tall and he has this very deep voice and great diction. He came across as a very serious actor and I could see that he is a very kind and innocent person in real life. When he starts acting, well, he’s young but still he has this power that conveys the message of the story to the viewer. He’s an amazing actor.
Kim Hyesoo Q: Heard that there was really good chemistry on set and there were a lot of adlibs and improvs? A: Well, I’m not really good at adlibs, and I don’t try that much. I try to stay truthful to the script, but Sungil and Jonghyuk would really deeply analyze the script and they would come up with the best adlib and improvs. That was very effective and I could also work off of their energy and try doing some adlibs. I really loved that experience!
Director You Sundong Q: Unmasked is the very first 2025 Disney+ series, and we have a whole lineup to come. Do you feel any pressure to be the first one? A: I do feel a bit of pressure of course, but I think in a good way. This is the very first Disney+ series of 2025 and it is such an honor for me that it is also going to be launched globally. This is a series that deals with issues that we see in the Korean society, so not only can us Koreans relate to these events, but global viewers can also relate to the social issues and things that happen in society. So yeah, that’s what I would like people to take away from this show.
Remember to catch “Unmasked” as it premieres exclusively on Disney+ on January 15!
