The 2021 Korean Film Festival (KFF) organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Singapore returns with its first ever hybrid line-up for all to enjoy from 7th October. Aptly themed “Here We Live, Here We Grow”, this year’s KFF will feature 8 titles over 15 screenings at Golden Village Suntec with Embassy’s local partners, and up to 30 classic Korean films online via meWATCH, in partnership with Clover Films.
For the first time ever, in show of solidarity between Singapore and Korea amidst pandemic, KFF will open with a simultaneous screening of “The Book of Fish” directed by Lee Joon Ik in partnership with Busan International Film Festival.
“The Book of Fish” tells a story of a young fisherman Chang-dae (Byun Yo-han), who helps an exiled scholar Jeong Yak-jeon (Sul Kyung-gu) to write a book about sea creatures during his time on Heuksan Island, forming a strong bond despite their different backgrounds and perspectives.
The screening will prove that audiences from both countries can actively communicate with one another beyond borders through the following Q&A session with the director and film cast in Korea.
In theatres
In-person screening will run over 2 weekends from the 7th to 17th of October 2021. From the action packed “Exit” which reminds us not to lose laugher even during a disaster to “Dongju”, a film based on a poet story who lost everything, only rising again with family love, the audience can pick from a selection of Korean titles to satisfy their K-cinematic cravings. Be sure to catch the special inclusion of “Minari”, a gentle film about finding home in the heartlands which saw South Korean veteran actress, Youn Yuh-jung, winning “Best Supporting Actress” at the 2021 Oscars awards. The titles, screened across 15 time slots, will be free and open to all vaccinated individuals. For more details on the line-up and ticket registration, please visit the KFF website: www.sgkff.com
