[REVIEW] Disney+ Mystery Thriller KDrama – Revenant

Disney+ gave us the opportunity to watch the first 2 episodes of their latest Mystery Thriller KDrama – Revenant before it was released out to public on 23 June 2023.

I am usually not a fan of Thriller genre dramas, but both Kim Taeri and Oh Jungse drew me into considering watching the drama since I loved their past works (Mr Sunshine, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay). And after watching the trailer I was even more convinced that I want to watch this drama.

Gu Sanyeong is a young girl who’s struggling to make ends meet. She believed that her father passed away in an accident when she was young, but to only find out that her mother has lied to her and he actually only passed away recently due to “an act of the demon”. She then bumps into Yeom Haesang, a Korean folklore university professer at her father’s wake, whom was also a Korean folklore professer that retired 15 years ago.

At the wake, Sanyeong’s grandmother handed her a mysterious trinket which her father has said to hand down to her. Upon opening it up and touching the hair accessory inside, her mother threw a fit and threw the hair accessory away. This could be a hint that Sanyeong’s mother know that that’s something creepy is going on with her father and the family. Ever since, strange things has been happening to Sanyeong and the people around her.

Other than teaching at the university as a professer, Yeom Haesang (who posses the ability to see ghosts) also make visits to excavation sites to examine artifacts discovered by excavation workers to see if artifacts discovered are of any value to be deemed as a culture assest. At the excavation site, Haesang met Sanyeong again and realised that an evil spirit has latched onto Sanyeong. Remembering the letter that Sanyeong’s father sent to him, even though they have not met, Haesang is set to figure out why did the evil spirit latched onto Sanyeong. It also happens that it’s the same evil spirit that killed Haesang’s mother when he was still a kid, and Haesang is determined to find out the reason for the evil spirit killing his mother years ago.

Throughout the first 2 episodes, I was worried that there might be jump scare scenes but I have not seen one yet and let’s hope it stays it this way! >< Even though I can’t wait for Episode 3 to be out, I might consider waiting for all of the episodes to be out so that I can binge watch this drama.
