The highly anticipated second season of A Shop for Killers is officially on its way to Disney+, and the cast and director gathered for a press conference to share new details about the series earlier today! With returning fan-favorites, exciting new additions and a promise of bigger action, Season 2 is shaping up to be an intense showdown between Murthehelp and Babylon.
Star-studded cast lineup
The press conference was attended by both the returning cast from Season 1 and several new faces joining the story. One of the biggest reveals from the event was that Jeong Ji-an (portrayed by Kim Hyejun) will become the new CEO of Murthehelp’s shopping mall, placing her at the center of the conflict moving forward.
A reunion and new beginnings
The cast members expressed their excitement about reuniting for Season 2 and welcoming the new actors into the A Shop for Killers family.
Jung Yunha, who plays Kusanagi, shared that Season 1’s immense success made joining the series an honor. She praised the strong characters portrayed by her fellow cast members and said it was a joy to work alongside them on set.
Hyunri, who plays Q, revealed that she was already a huge fan of Season 1 before joining the production. She expressed deep respect for the cast and crew and said she felt a strong sense of responsibility not to disappoint viewers.
For Masaki Okada, who plays J, Season 2 marks his first Korean production. He described joining such a beloved series as a great joy and said he believes it was an excellent decision to participate in a Korean project.
The keyword for Season 2: Retaliation
When asked to describe Season 2 in one word, Director Lee Kwon chose “Retaliation.”
“To all attacks, there is a counterattack,” the director explained. “I wanted to bring that phrase to life.”
He noted that Season 1 ended with many unanswered questions and mysteries, and Season 2 will focus on resolving them. The story will explore Ji-an’s discovery of her uncle Jin-man’s secrets and how Jin-man reacts when he reunites with her.
Murthehelp vs. Babylon
Season 2 will fully immerse viewers in the world of assassins, with Murthehelp facing off against the powerful organization Babylon.
Jeong Ji-an’s transformation
Kim Hyejun’s character, Jeong Ji-an, will undergo a major transformation. After being suddenly attacked and left feeling lost, Ji-an chooses to fight back despite remaining under threat. The actress hinted that viewers can expect intense action scenes showcasing Ji-an’s growth and resilience.
Jin-man vs. Bale
One of the most anticipated rivalries of Season 2 is the confrontation between Jeong Jin-man and Bale, whose history of bad blood dates back to their missionary days.
Lee Dongwook revealed that Jin-man will actively counterattack his enemies and that Season 2 will feature even more action sequences than the first season. He promised that he put his best effort into delivering a thrilling performance.
Jo Hansun described Bale’s hatred toward Jin-man as stemming from humiliation he suffered at Jin-man’s hands. He teased that Bale’s actions in Season 2 will be extremely ruthless, even joking that they may draw criticism from viewers due to their brutality.
Returning favorites: Min-hye and Pasin
Fans who loved So Min-hye and Pasin in Season 1 will be delighted to see them return with expanded roles.
Geum Hannah explained that Min-hye had nothing to protect in Season 1, which allowed her to risk her life freely. In Season 2, however, Min-hye has something precious to protect, making her fight with even greater determination. She also teased a wider variety of action scenes, including motorcycle stunts and wire-action sequences.
Kim Min shared that Season 2 will introduce many new action elements, including robots, ninjas and more, promising a visually spectacular experience for viewers.
Meet Babylon East Asia
The new characters from Babylon East Asia will play a crucial role in Season 2’s escalating conflict.
Kusanagi
Jung Yunha described Kusanagi as someone who wants to become the “game master” of the chessboard. A mastermind who controls everything from behind the scenes. Kusanagi is obsessed with achieving results, regardless of the means, and struggles with her identity as someone who does not fully belong to either Korea or Japan.
She added that Kusanagi has a strong desire for victory and that her emotional intensity sets her apart from other characters. Although Kusanagi believes she is in control, she gradually becomes consumed by her own obsession.
Q
Hyunri portrayed Q as a highly competent, hardworking, and cold assassin. However, she revealed that Q has a softer side, particularly in her relationship with her younger brother within the team. Hyunri joked that if Q were not an assassin, she could have been an actor.
J
Masaki Okada described J as a curious character with a strong sense of risk and a childlike personality. He revealed that Season 2 was his first experience performing action scenes, and he learned a great deal from Lee Dongwook and the other actors on set.
The cast’s dedication to action
The new cast members underwent extensive preparation to bring their characters to life. Hyunri revealed that she gained 5 kilograms of muscle mass and trained for four to five months to prepare for her role as Q. She admitted that the adrenaline rush from filming action scenes made it difficult for her to sleep during the first shoot, but she hopes to take on even more action roles in the future.
Director Lee Kwon praised the new cast for their hard work, highlighting Masaki Okada’s natural charm as J, Hyunri’s dedication to physical training, and Jung Yunha’s efforts to portray the brutal yet emotionally complex Kusanagi.
A completely new story from the original novel
When asked about the relationship between Season 2 and the original novel, Director Lee Kwon confirmed that the new season will be very different from the source material. “Season 2 is a completely different story,” he said. “Season 1 left some mysteries unanswered, such as what Babylon is and why they are attacking Jeong Jin-man. That is the story we will tell in Season 2.”
The director also revealed that Season 2 will delve into Babylon’s original backstory, giving viewers a deeper understanding of the organization’s motives and history.
Will there be a Season 3?
Although no official confirmation has been made regarding a third season, Director Lee Kwon admitted that he has been thinking about the possibility. However, he emphasized that the decision is not entirely up to him. In a lighthearted moment, Lee Dongwook candidly pointed to Disney+ on his microphone, signaling his enthusiasm for continuing the series. He stated that if he receives an offer to return for Season 3, he is ready to join without hesitation.
With its promise of intense action, emotional character development, and the explosive clash between Murthehelp and Babylon, A Shop for Killers Season 2 is poised to deliver an even more thrilling experience than its predecessor.
