Known for his R&B vocals in the underground scene in Korea and a songwriter for several K-Pop hits, Jooyoung has established himself as a solo artist with his recent new album, Sphere. He announced his Asia tour with cities like Hong Kong, Bangkok and in Singapore on 30th May 2024 at Esplanade’s Annexe Studio. The concert started with an intimate setting of his stage where there were dimmed lights and him lighting an incense stick, with a slight aroma.
As he introduced himself, he swooned the audience with Wonder, Horizon, As I am and RIP. Mixing both Korean and English, he mentioned that his new album took 4 years to complete and that it means a lot to him. He continues with the crowd’s favourite, Fountain, a sweet, mellowed piano rendition of NA and Sunshine, a song that’s full of meaning to him and also made him a brighter version of himself.
Fans cheered when he mentioned that he had prepared some covered songs like Paul Anka – Put your head on my shoulder and Carpenters – Close to you. The fans were completely immersed that they sang along with him to both the acoustic renditions. He continued with his singles like Prada, Planet Girl, Blind and Fever.
Jooyoung delved with a little bit more of his personal life from his songs: Misfit Sunday, a song specially made for his 6 friends who will gather on a Sunday to work on his album. He called them, “Nunchi hanguk saram” hence why the misfit wording came into play. And My Soles Worn Out was when he had a difficult time in his previous company and felt lost at that point of time.
To lighten the atmosphere a little more, Jooyoung interacted with the fans by performing Daydream and Dive, while hi-fiving them and expressing his love for his fans. The stage ended with him promising to be back not just with more song releases but to also be able to perform in Singapore again.
