Kim Seon-ho promises thrilling and bloody action in new sci-fi miniseries – The Tyrant

Kim Seon-Ho’s newest work The Tyrant has been released as a miniseries in August on Disney+. The thriller promises themes of espionage, revenge and sci-fi as well as many familiar faces in their star-studded cast like Kim Seon-Ho (Start-Up, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha), Cha Seung-Won (Our Blues, A Korean Odyssey), Kim Kang-Woo (The Childe, Goodbye Mr. Black) and Jo Yoon-Su (True Beauty, Juvenile Justice).

The Tyrant tells the story of a group of scientists who developed a cutting-edge virus under “The Tyrant Program” and during a hand-off, the virus goes missing. The virus, which enhances human abilities and would be a formidable bioweapon for any country, is coveted in the series by US intelligence and by South Korea as it would level the playing field against other powerful nations.

Director Choe (played by Kim Seon-Ho), who is the steadfast leader of “The Tyrant Program” is forced to surrender his work to US intelligence when the program is discovered. Doing everything he can to oppose it, he hires a black ops team to retrieve the virus samples.

US intelligence agent Paul (played by Kim Kang-Woo) travels to South Korea to shut down the program and is focused on locating its last virus sample. Paul and Director Choe race against time to outsmart each other to succeed in their goals.

Chae Ja-Kyung (played by Jo Yoon-Su) is a tenacious assassin tasked to steal the virus samples from the program. Easily underestimated as due to her slight build, she is merciless, quick with both her wits and her weapons.

Ja-Kyung ends up working with Lim Sang (played by Cha Seung-Won), a retired agent turned hitman who does the dirty work for “The Tyrant Program” under Director Choe’s orders. Used to working solo, these two characters make an unlikely yet terrifying pair.

Kim Seon-Ho who is marking his long awaited drama return, shows off his versatility with Director Choe being nothing like the affable character viewers will remember from Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. Viewers can also anticipate the thrilling action sequences in the series, especially from Seung-Won and Yoon-Su.

The series is helmed by Director Park Hoon-Jung (The Witch, The Childe), who is also known for his realistic and intense portrayal of violence and drama with thought-provoking storylines. Originally intended to be released as a film, The Tyrant was later converted into a four-part series during the editing process.

Check out The Tyrant, a gritty thriller with incredible acting by the stellar cast, now streaming on Disney+!
