YOU’RE STILL MY NO.1
K-pop fans will definitely be familiar with the name BoA, one of the pioneer singers in the K-pop scene. Having debuted at the young age of 13, BoA proved her position in the industry with her strong vocals and dancing skills, boasting a wide range of music in her discography, from the pop song “Hurricane Venus” to rock song “The Shadow”.
Mainly focused in the Korea and Japan industry, BoA shared that she had little opportunity to venture into other countries to perform. As she finally embarked on her first solo Asia tour <BoA LIVE TOUR: ONE’S OWN> this year, BoA expressed excitement over being able to perform in front of her fans overseas. The tour started off with a two-day show in Seoul in October 2024, before making stops at Jakarta and Taipei. BoA concluded her first solo tour in Singapore, at The Star Theatre on 30 November 2024.
THE GREATEST
The show started off with an opening VCR reflecting on BoA’s career over the past 24 years. BoA pulled it off with her wide range of music from pop to rock, even smoothly transiting between her Korean and Japanese songs. Fans were also delighted to hear the familiar tunes to songs such as “The Shadow”, “Garden in the Air” and “My Name”.
The show also reflected BoA’s efforts in giving back to her fans, as she presented a wide range of outfits for the different parts of her performances. Her dressing ranged from a white princess-look during her opening acts, a black and white one-piece giving off “Queen BoA” vibes, to a comfortable loose tee and pants for her encore show.
ONLY ONE
BoA’s concert felt like an overdue gathering with friends, as she comfortably conversed with her fans on her past experiences and shared her honest feelings towards preparing for the show. Having taken a month-long break in between her Seoul concert and the overseas stop, BoA shared her struggles in having to take extra time to prepare for her show, as if she had to prepare it again from scratch. However, this did not stump the 38-year-old veteran as her body was able to remember her stages well, even feeling delighted to welcome back her band members and dancers.
BoA also shared how she faced significant changes in preparing for her shows as compared to her younger days, having to take breaks in between her shows although there were no VCRs in-between. She then commended her band members and dancers, who seemed to have no breaks in between the show, even playfully saying that they finally found time to rest now that she is talking. While talking about her greatest wish to prioritize her own health and mental state, it was heartwarming to hear her fans shouting back words of care to her, to which BoA returned the wish to them.
It seems there is a complementary Singlish lesson for K-pop idols whenever touring Singapore, and BoA was not spared of this as well. She had to seek help from her fans, before eventually remembering the Singlish term for ‘thank you’ (gamxia). BoA shared her appreciation for her fans who have been with her for a long time, even as she had always been focusing her career in Japan and Korea. Even without her unfamiliarity with social media, she commended her fans who have always been able to obtain her whereabouts.
As Boa concluded her Asia tour in Singapore, she expressed her thanks to the fans along her journey, hoping to be able to meet with her fans again one day!
