Coffee lovers rejoice – renowned artisanal coffee roaster chain Blue Bottle Coffee is opening its first outlet in Korea! Originating from Oakland, this will also be Blue Bottle’s second overseas location besides Japan.
Also dubbed as the “Apple of the coffee industry”, it is not surprising that Korea is chosen as the next location for Blue Bottle to open its doors at, given the strong cafe culture in Korea, and also the number of Koreans I always see when I visit a Blue Bottle Coffee outlet in Japan!
The first Blue Bottle outlet in Seoul, Korea is located in the heart of Seongsu. This outlet also houses one of the four roasteries in the world, where raw coffee beans from Busan are roasted twice a week. Even professional roasters from Japan flew in to Korea to specially prepare for the store’s opening.
Keeping true to its minimalist yet warm concept, Blue Bottle Seongsu utilizes these four key elements: gray walls, flowers, walnut trees, natural light. Although this is an underground cafe, the interior is designed such that it’s an oasis in the city for one to enjoy coffee and relax.
Besides the usual single origin drip coffee and latte that the chain is famous for, the outlet will also be selling desserts that go well with the beverages. In collaboration with famed bakery Maison M.O, a Korea-exclusive madeleine added with sesame oil will be available in the menu.
In addition, curry pound cake, lemon icing cookies and sandwiches are also available.
As per every Blue Bottle coffee outlet, the Seongsu branch will also be selling merchandise. Do check out these Seoul-exclusive merch that will be made available during the official opening: Seoul tote bag (with hanok tiles pattern, the brand’s signature colour & the iconic Blue Bottle logo), glass mug. Coffee beans and brewing equipment such as the Blue Bottle Coffee Dripper will be available for sale as well.
If you’re afraid of the long queues, Blue Bottle Coffee will be opening its second Seoul outlet in Samcheong-dong, home to the traditional hanok villages, sometime in the near future (although we reckon there’ll be long queues as well!)
