ATEEZ landed their first No. 1 Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart (dated July 1) with their newest mini album – The World EP.2: Outlaw. Members HONGJOONG, SEONGHWA, YUNHO, YEOSANG, SAN, MINGI, WOOYOUNG, and JONGHO, from KQ Entertainment, has been making waves since their first debut in 2018. 

Widely popular in the west, the octet has sold out stadiums in their recent Latin America Tour. But in Asia, they’re definitely making their mark. The group completed their FIRST Asia tour successfully from July to September, with Singapore’s show sold out, I believe that this is just the beginning for them. 

While the team’s concept may be slightly intimidating for others trying to get into them, trust me when I say it’s worth it – here are 3 reasons why you should get on this pirate ship!

1. Their jaw-dropping performances 

I got to know ATEEZ and their repertoire throughout COVID-19 and it’s been a journey to say the least. If you’ve not seen their performances, what are you waiting for? I highly recommend their stages from Kingdom, Answer: Ode to Joy and Symphony No.9 “From The Wonderland” – these are my personal favourites. 

Not only are they amazing on screens, they’re also amazing in live concerts. I had the opportunity to catch them in Seoul during [THE FELLOWSHIP: BREAK THE WALL] ANCHOR and the Hong Kong stop in their Asia tour, and their energy was insane. While their stage set ups were simple, their live vocals, energy, and sharp choreography took everyone’s breathe away. I had to catch my breath after every performance – as though I was the one who performed – and simply just said ‘they’re crazy, their energy is insane’.

2. They make their own music, and they’re pretty darn good at it

All ATEEZ members partake in making their albums; though generally it’s Hongjoong and Mingi that produces along with EDENARY, the others take part in writing lyrics and melodies. 

And they’re damn good at it.

Their recent title track release, BOUNCY (K-HOT CHILLI PEPPERS) with an astounding 102 million views, swept the TikTok trends with its catchy melody and simple choreography. Famous idols and celebrities such as ITZY, SHINee, Kim Jongkook, and Cha Hyunseung took part in this challenge, confirming that the song’s a hit.

Aside from their hottest title tracks, they have many amazing b-side tracks that covers a variety of genres. Such as From, Mist, My Way, Dancing like Butterfly Wings and Turbulence, my personal favourite? Star 1117, a love-letter to their Atinys.

3. Their beagle-like personalities, and funny reality content selves

Despite having fierce stage presence, the members are actually funny between themselves and in reality shows that they star in.

For the past year, they’ve been making weekly variety content on their YouTube Channel called WANTEEZ and it’s been a blast watching their chemistry with each other. The team’s given a concept/storyline with each new ‘season’, and seeing them bicker back and forth with each other along with witty comments is just the tip of the iceberg.

Aside from their own personal variety show, some from Idol Human Theatre and HIT Village has been some personal favourites that I draw towards whenever I want something easy to watch.

With all that said, I can’t wait to see what’s next for ATEEZ. A growth in their fanbase around Asia can be seen following the release of BOUNCY, and words cannot express how proud I am to see that happening for them! They deserve so much more and it’s only getting better from here.
