Wondering where you can spend your June holidays on this little red dot? Singapore might be small or boring to some of us. Where else could we go except to the shopping malls and watching movies? Why not head off to the ArtScience Museum and explore more about the finest jewellery and gems!
ArtScience Museum has prepared a series of activities and exhibitions just for this June school holiday!
First up, we will be introducing their exhibition, “Van Cleef & Arpels: The Art and Science of Gems”
Inside the exhibition, you will be attracted to the gems that is on displayed all over the exhibition hall! You will also understand the inter-relationship between the science of mineralogy and the art of crafting the finest jewellery and gems.
“In parallel to the Van Cleef & Arpels creations, over 250 gems and minerals from the Collection of the French National Museum of Natural History invited by l’Ecole Van Cleef & Arpels are unveiled. Seven major principles critical for the precious stones’ formation are displayed along the exhibition: pressure, temperature, transport, water, oxygen, life and metamorphism” – ArtScience Msuseum
You will also be given an activity book by the ArtScience Museum when you visit the exhibition! This activity book allows you to know more about the gemstones and finding answers as you go along!
Special paper gems just for you!
You can also find a mini activity booth in the gallery as you make use of the tapes and golden strings to make your very own paper gems, and yes, you can bring this home!
A Day in the Life of a Mineralogist!
ArtScience Museum will also be organizing a hands-work workshop for the ticket-holders! This workshop is located right inside the gallery.
“You can discover the world of gemstones in this hands-on demonstration revealing the working methods and collection of a mineralogist. Try your hands at using tools to examine minerals and their physical properties!”
I also got the chance to attend this workshop and it’s really fun as you get to wear a white robe (just like a real mineralogist!) and knowing the differences of gemstones and different level of hardness!
This workshop will only be available every Fridays (3, 10, 17 and 24 Jun), time: 4.30PM – 5.30PM.
*It will be first-come-first-served basis, up to 20 participants for this workshop
*Registration stickers will be given out 5 minutes before tour begins at the exhibition entrance!
So be sure to mark the dates and time if you want to participate in this exciting workshop!
Van Cleef & Arpels exhibition will make you realized how all the jewellery came about and how intricate the designs are! And you will definitely be awed at the end of the gallery! 😉
