[REVIEW] TOMORROW X TOGETHER, their reclaimed summer

MOAs, this is one documentary you NEED to catch – it encapsulates their passion, struggles, hard work and most importantly, their love for the stage.

Having watched both j-hope IN THE BOX and SUGA: Road to D-DAY prior – both available on Disney+ and Weverse – I thought that TOMORROW X TOGETHER: OUR LOST SUMMER would have a similar HYBE documentary style. But to my surprise, the documentary was very – for lack of better term – TXT. Think of CROWN’s MV editing, but in a documentary format. It was refreshing and engaging to say the least.

Without spoiling too much, the documentary covers TXT’s journey during their U.S. tour to their Lollapalooza performance. Holding a world tour post-covid, the boys were evidently more than excited for the opportunity. Though they’ve held online concerts prior due to covid, they shared feeling ‘discouraged’ and ‘gloomy’ for not being able to hear MOAs cheers.

As Hueningkai said, “I think that in some ways, a concert tour is the highlight of an artist’s career.”

Throughout the documentary, I really enjoyed how TXT’s group dynamic was captured – as a casual fan who watches their weekly TO DO episodes, their friendly bickers and teasing of each other while funny, also exemplifies their love for each other. Watching them gain success and popularity feels like I’m cheering for a group of best friends living their dreams, and I feel so proud and happy for them.

In the lead up to Lollapalooza, TXT had fears and reservations that the attendees wouldn’t cheer for them. Furthermore, the odds were not in their favor as they had no time to conduct soundchecks. But MOAs showed up for them, held their MOA bongs high and proud, leaving the boys shocked.

Spoiler: Prior to their stage, J-Hope, who also performed at Lollapalooza, and Jimin came to support their little brothers before the show. You can tell that TXT instantly felt at ease as their seniors offered words of assurances, and by just being there looking out for them.

With a successful stage in 2022, the documentary ended with a flex – a flex that TOMORROW X TOGETHER, will be 2023 Lollapalooza’s headliner.

Overall, while it’s a heartening documentary, I wish they included more conversations or group interviews where they share their feelings and thoughts with each other. Towards the end, Soobin mentioned he felt different/isolated because his emotions were different from the other members after Lollapalooza, I wanted to know what the other members think and how they got through it together.

With all that said, this documentary’s a small memory capsule as compared to whatever’s next for TOMORROW X TOGETHER’S career as a group – and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for them.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER: OUR LOST SUMMER is available on both Disney+ and Weverse now.

P.S. Don’t forget to sit through the credits MOAs!
