TWICE’s first ever concert in Singapore, TWICELAND – The Opening in Singapore, kicked off on Saturday evening at The Star Theatre to a filled up venue of passionate ONCE. The group, comprising of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu had a spectacular entrance, as they appeared on stage standing on an intricate spiral staircase backdrop.
The concert started off with ‘Touch Down’ and ‘I’m Gonna Be A Star’, followed by one of their hit songs ‘Cheer Up’ before the members greeted the audience and introduced themselves, welcoming their fans to TWICELAND, which had opened for the first time in Singapore.
TWICE performed ‘Like Ooh Ahh’, the song which got the group to where they are today (in the words of TWICE). Besides slower-paced songs like ‘Like A Fool’, the group also performed upbeat tunes like ‘Headphone 써’, ‘Ponytail’ and ‘Pit-a-pat’.
The special unit stages showed the different sides of the members – with Jihyo, Mina and Jeongyeon showing their cool sides with Madonna’s ‘4 Minutes’; Sana, Momo, Nayeon and Chaeyoung flaunting their sexy selves with Beyonce’s ‘Yonce’; Dahyun and Tzuyu being the definition of cute (mixed with charisma) with Dahyun’s piano solo followed by the duo’s rendition of Turbo’s ‘Black Cat Nero’.
But it was indeed cuteness overload when all the TWICE members appeared on stage to perform the theme song for animes Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailormoon, while donning pastel Sailormoon-inspired outfits. There were still even more special stages – TWICE also covered EXO’s ‘Overdose’ and Seventeen’s ‘Pretty U’!
TWICE announced that the concert was coming to an end with ‘Precious Love’, ‘Jelly Jelly’ and their latest title track ‘Knock Knock’ – but of course, which K-Pop concert will not have an encore stage? However, there was a catch – fans had to complete missions in order to get TWICE to return on stage for the encore, such as dancing to ‘TT’, guessing how many times the phrase ‘TT’ appeared in ‘TT’ and taking a ‘group photo’ with TWICE.
TWICE returned to stage amidst the loud cheers with ‘One In A Million’, donning cute headbands. The members took turns to thank their fans for coming, and they promised to return to Singapore again soon. Leader Jihyo expressed regret that she could not join her members on stage and had to sit on a chair to perform, but she assured fans that she will recover well soon. Momo even promised to learn other languages in order to better communicate with fans!
The mass group photo session with ONCE turned out to be a surprise event for TWICE, as a touching fanmade video was screened instead, and everyone held up banners reading ‘우리 트와이스 응원할게’ (We’ll support TWICE). The concert finally came to an end with encore performances of ‘Like Ooh Ahh’, ‘Cheer Up’ and ‘TT’, with lucky fans receiving plenty of fanservice from the members.
