KAvenyou Beauty Carnival 2019 – The first mention of whitening gives off some negative connotation to things. For Korean beauty (K-Beauty), whitening has evolved from a showcase of status, to simply owning pearly, dewy, bright healthy skin.
Rewinding back into probably the Joseon era, fair skin was often associated with wealth, high social status, and not needing to work in the farms (getting tanned). The word “whitening” in K-beauty in current times really just refers to brightening and achieving an even skin tone. Therefore, “Whitening” = “Brightening”, regardless of what packaging may refer it to.
So which idols or celebrities are synonymous with that bright porcelain skin tone?
Now that we are familiar with Korean whitening, what are some of the popular products in the market?
JUICYFUL Vitalizer Tone-Up Cream– Tone up creams are popular in Asia because they deliver that lovely, instant brightening effect. This cream contains many beneficial ingredients, and is free of paraben, mineral oils and alcohol. As it is very moisturizing, it is suitable for even people with dry skin; and most importantly IT WORKS!
SECRETKEY Snow White Cream– Secret Key’s Snow White Cream features baby snail, which helps to brighten the skin and lessen the tone of dark spots. It also includes nutrients that aid in the brightening of the skin, tightening of the pores, and smoothing of the skin. The Snow White cream does a great job of evening out the skin tone, is light and not greasy. It should be safe for sensitive skin.
KLAVUU White Pearlsation Revitalizing Pearl Treatment Toner– The brightening effect the white pearlsation revitalizing pearl treatment toner provides is similar to a lot of toners or essence with the ingredient niacinamide. However, the amount of hydration it gives to your skin is impressive, giving dull looking skin instant life and a luminous glow.
Laneige White Plus Renew Skin Refiner – This product contains a refining exfoliator that sloughs away dead skin cells while improving skin’s ability to keep itself moisturized. It also contains amino acids that also work to peel off dead skin cells, which give skin an immediate boost in brightness. The Swiss White Lupine works to keep skin supple while lightening it enough to achieve the coveted luminous glow of Korean skin. It has a great smell, a non-sticky texture and is safe enough even for those with sensitive skin.
There are actually tonnes of products with similar content (since there are just that many natural “whitening” ingredients right?) in the market, which also includes the likes of TonyMoly’s Panda Cream, Mizon’s Good Night White Sleeping Mask, Manefit’s Bling Bling Hydrogel Mask Set – Whitening Platinum, and many more.
So do more reading up, and try them out to find the one that works best for your skin.
