Artist JEON BYEONG SAM, who has carved out a unique niche in Korean contemporary art, will host two simultaneous large-scale solo exhibitions to coincide with Singapore Art Week 2026 (SAW), Asia’s premier art festival.
Opening on January 22, 2026, the exhibitions will be staged at two of Singapore’s most iconic venues: Capitol Singapore, a restored cultural landmark, and CHIJMES, a national monument steeped in history. Through bold artistic experimentation spanning 2D and 3D mediums—from his signature “Photo-sculptures”, created by physically folding and stacking portraits, to media art that reinterprets national symbols through light—JEON will showcase the philosophical depth and technical prowess of Korean contemporary art on the global stage.
Stacking the Layers of Existence: <JEON BYEONG SAM: InterFace>
Held for one month at the Capitol Singapore Exhibition Hall, showcases the artist’s unique creative world, where human identity is visually decomposed and reconstructed. For this exhibition, JEON BYEONG SAM has curated 30 portraits that bridge reality and the virtual realm. The lineup includes ten prominent Singaporeans, such as beloved veteran actor Mark Lee and influencer Chiou Huey, alongside the artist’s acquaintances of various ages and professions from around the world. To further expand on the theme of global diversity, several portraits were created
using AI tools, blending real-life connections with virtual entities.
Through a meticulous, performative process of printing thousands of photos and hand-folding them one by one, JEON BYEONG SAM transforms these specific faces into abstract three- dimensional objects. In the space where individual features disappear, viewers are invited to confront the essence of existence and the complex networks of modern society.
Reflecting National Symbols Through Light: <JEON BYEONG SAM: Rumination>
Running for 10 days at the CHIJMES Main Lawn, is a large-scale media project that utilizes the facade of a historic architectural masterpiece. JEON deconstructs the colors and geometric elements of national flags from around the world, transforming them into organic, moving abstract images projected onto the facade of CHIJMES Hall, a National Monument of Singapore. As familiar symbols are dismantled and fused, the audience experiences a deep visual meditation on coexistence and continuity that transcends the boundaries of nation and culture.
JEON BYEONG SAM: Exploring “Infinity within the Finite”
JEON BYEONG SAM has long focused on the artistic possibilities of “The Finite.” His work, where subjects with a beginning and an end—such as life, nations, and ideologies—acquire a new sense of presence through repetition and layering, touches upon the fundamental question: “What is existence?”
“My work is a process of inducing infinite thought through finite matter,” says JEON. “In Singapore, where diverse cultures and values intersect, I want to pose a question about the very essence of our being.”

To commemorate the exhibition during Singapore Art Week, a special interactive visitor workshop will be held. In this program, when visitors submit a photo of their face, it is transformed into a vibrant, multi-colored striped pattern—reminiscent of the artist’s signature ‘MOMENT’ series—and crafted into a unique art badge. Through this experience, participants are invited to directly engage with the artist’s creative world and enjoy the special opportunity to own a miniature piece of art that reflects their own identity.
