“Hansan: Rising Dragon”, the prequel to Korea’s highest grossing blockbuster “Roaring Currents”, will hit Singapore cinemas come 18 August 2022. The highly anticipated prequel topped the Korean box office and accumulated more than 2-million admissions over its opening weekend!
“Hansan: Rising Dragon” is the second instalment of the ‘Admiral Yi Sun-sin Trilogy’, which is based on true accounts of the celebrated historical figure. “Roaring Currents” (2014), the first instalment of the trilogy, is the most-viewed film of all time in Korea, with a record admission of more than 17 million.
Directed by Kim Han-min, “Hansan: Rising Dragon” is a historical war epic depicting the Battle of Hansan Island off the southern coast of Korea in July 1592, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin defeated the larger Japanese forces through intelligent tactics and the use of his signature turtle battleship “Geobukseon”. Revisiting this naval battle from 430 years ago, the film delivers the thrill of that historic victory to viewers.
The film boasts a star-studded cast consisting of Park Hae-il (as Admiral Yi Sun-sin), Byun Yo-han, Ahn Sung-ki, Son Hyun-joo, Kim Sung-kyu, Kim Sung-kyun, Kim Hyang-gi, Ok Taec-yeon, Gong Myoung and Park Ji-hwan.
