DERRICK HOH DEBUTS ON ITUNES #1 WITH COMEBACK MANDARIN SINGLE [LEMON TREE]

After a wait of more than 4 years, Asian pop star Derrick Hoh is back – and on fire! His new Mandarin single [Sweet Lemon], debuts at #1 on the iTunes Singles Chart on the first day of release 14th October 2015. Within a few hours, the single hit the pole position, leaving behind hot singles such as Justin Bieber’s comeback song in the trails.

[Lemon Tree] joins the ranks of Derrick’s numerous chart-topping singles in the past. His big hit from his sophomore album, “Acceptance” (當我知道你們相愛) was placed Top 20 in the Annual Top 20 of the Global Chinese Music Chart. In subsequent years, he made the headlines when he was crowned Best Regional Artiste at the MAMA Awards; Best Regional Artiste at the Global Chinese Music Awards; and Most Popular Male Artiste at the Singapore Hit Awards, among other accolades.

Derrick’s new version of [Lemon Tree] is not a remake of the global hit by Fools Garden. However, it samples the chorus of the classic smash strongly, with new melody and lyrics – and an addictive up-tempo beat. It is radically different from the mid-tempo 90s Chinese cover version by Tarcy Su. The dance single [Lemon Tree] is the first single off his upcoming album [Lemon Tree], releasing Asia-wide on 2/11.

The happy vibe of [lemon Tree] is a sign of what’s upcoming in the new album. For this new project, Derrick sports a cheerful and brighter persona, different from his ‘cool’ image of the past albums. Derrick Hoh was the first ever Singapore artiste to hit #1 on iTunes since its inauguration in Singapore with his debut English language single “Forever”. The other singles from his English EP “All I Want”, (Show Me What I’ve Been Looking For, Somebody, All I want) have all hit the Top 10 as well.
