31 January 2015 – The first day of the Singapore Cricket Club’s International Soccer Sixes, which was held at the Padang, saw some spectacular sporting action from various six-a side teams from the region. Fan favourites, former Manchester United great, Lee Sharpe, and local football hero, Aleksandar Duric, also thrilled the crowd, winning two out of their three matches for defending champion, the CLA All Stars.
The first-ever Indonesian team to compete in the Singapore Cricket Club International Soccer Sixes Open Category, Kwarta FC, impressed with their consistent performance. Winning all their group games, they will join Vikings FC, SCC NFL, Malayan City Tigers, SCC Firsts, Yokohama CAC, Singapore Recreation Club and SCC U18’s in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
Failing to impress however, were Geylang International FC and Home United. Without winning any of their matches, both S.League teams are in the bottom half of the table and will play for the Open Plate tomorrow.
For the Masters Category, all eyes were on CLA All Stars, and expectation was high. The crowd favourite started slow with a loss against Club ITE (0-2) in the first game but recovered quickly to win their next two matches. They will face stiff competition from Bangkok Airways, CLA Legends, SCC Conveners Select, Club ITE, St Davids FC, Singapore Polytechnic Vets and Weston All Stars, as they play for the title in their category.
The final day of The SCC International Soccer Sixes will be held at the Padang tomorrow with all matches for all categories starting from 9am. The event is opened to the public and entry is free.
