Powerhouse vocalist Ailee is back with her 7th mini-album, “(Me)moir“, released on March 20. Fully produced by Pdogg, the mastermind behind many of BTS’s biggest hits, the album also features three unique music videos.
The title “(Me)moir” is a clever play on the word “memoir“, with “Me” in parentheses, representing Ailee’s personal journey and shedding light on the artist behind her real name, Lee Ye Jin. With all tracks in English, Pdogg not only produced but also composed, arranged, and played instruments on every song, “MMI“, “Illusion“, and “Meaning“.
The title track “MMI” and the rest of the album showcase Ailee’s diverse musical range, blending dynamic beats with her powerhouse vocals. “MMI” is a vibrant hip-hop R&B anthem with Miami beats, exudes Ailee’s confident and playful energy while delivering a message of self-focus through its catchy and upbeat rhythm.
The R&B pop track “Illusion“, rooted in the Jersey Club genre, features a strong bass line paired with Ailee’s smooth vocals, creating an irresistible groove. The song marks a notable step in Ailee’s musical evolution, where the fusion of dreamy sounds and her subtle voice evokes a deeply emotional experience.
The ballad “Meaning” highlights Ailee’s emotive storytelling with its heartfelt lyrics and a rich vocal harmony chorus. The music video starts with a personal video from Ailee, where we watch her celebrate her birthday as a child. Beginning with a soft guitar melody, the track gradually builds, showcasing Ailee’s beautiful vocal colour as she sings the chorus “You give my life a meaning“.
In other news, Ailee is also set to marry Singles Inferno star Choi Si-hoon on April 20!
