The Wonder Girls held a press conference in conjunction with their concert, The Wonder World Tour in Malaysia. We had a great time with the girls as they were all so fluent in English, especially Yenny, Sunye and Hyerim and they were all very cheerful and lovely as well.
Q: How does it feel like to be back to Malaysia again?
Yenny: We had a wonderful time with our fans last time, so we’re very excited to see our fans again and we’re very happy to be back here.
Q: Any plans for JYP Nation in Malaysia?
Sohee: We don’t have any plans yet, but we would love to (have a JYP Nation concert here).
Q: Sunye is in a relationship now, are the other members jealous of that?
Sunye: I’m doing good in my relationship. I’m sure the other girls are not jealous. They’re very supportive of my relationship and I’m so thankful for that. A lot of people are very curious about my relationship but when I have something that I have to share with you all, I would definitely make it public, so don’t worry about it. And thank you for supporting me.
Q: You have debuted in your acting career in the US. How was it like for you?
Yenny: That was our first acting together. Except for Sohee, it was our first experience in acting. So it was difficult at first because we had to act in English too. But then we were actually being ourselves and acting as our own character and we got to know each other better. So it was a wonderful experience.
Q: Do you have anything special prepared for tonight’s show?
Yubin: We will be performing in our special costume that we’ve prepared for Malaysia.
Q: Since the Wonder Girls are known for writing their own songs, are there any plans on coming out with a solo album for each member?
Yenny: Now we’re still preparing for our US album together. So there is no solo album planned. But we all have different styles so maybe in the future.
Q: Who is your favourite international artiste that you’ve worked with/ would like to work with?
Hyerim: I would say Akon because I always was a huge fan of him and I always loved his music. It’s super catchy and fun. So, Akon.
Sunye: I would say Beyonce. I would always look up to her. So if we get the chance to meet her or get to collaborate with her, it would be amazing.
Yenny: I love Usher! (laughs)
Yubin: Katy Perry. She’s very fun and she’s a very talented artist, so maybe in the future?
Sohee: Maybe Rihanna? She’s very cool and trendy so I would love to meet her.
Q: What is the biggest challenge that you’ve faced so far?
Yenny: I think going to America was the hardest challenge for all of us because we couldn’t speak English back then and we didn’t know about American culture or the market. But then it was also a wonderful moment because we all loved American music and we grew up listening to it. So when we think back it was a wonderful moment for all of us.
Q: There are a lot of newly debuted idol group these days in Korea. How do you maintain your popularity?
Hyerim: We just try to keep coming out with better music and to just be ourselves.
Yenny: And I think it’s really great to see more Kpop artist outside and inside (Korea). They all have different kind of styles and they’re adding more colours to Kpop. So it’s a great thing.
Q: We know that Hyerim is a huge fan of One Direction. So who was your favourite in the group and what would you like to do with that member if you had a chance to meet him?
Hyerim: *star-strucked* I like all of them but if I had to choose one it would be Louis Tomlinson, because he seems very goofy and fun to be with. If I get to meet him I would like to have lunch with him.
Q: Any new idol group that you like? And if there is, why?
Yenny: We don’t wanna seem too supportive but then JJ Project just debuted, and they’re from our company. They both sing really well and they’re music is great. So I hope you guys love them too.
Q: What character would you like to play in a movie?
Hyerim: I will like to act in a romantic comedy. I’m into comedy, family or fantasy movies.
Sunye: I would say action. Like Angelina Jolie, really hardcore action
Yenny: I think me too (action movies). Kinda like catwoman.
Yubin: There’ll be more competition, I’m too into action, and I also like comedy, so maybe fun ones?
Sohee: I wanna play a teenage girl so I can wear school uniforms.
Q: Can you tell us more about the concert tonight?
Yenny: You’re gonna hear all of our hit songs from our debut to present. And we’ve prepared a lot so you’re going to see a lot of different stages, different kind of style and you’ll see some solo stages too, and hear our US songs. We’re really excited.
Sunye: Thank you again for always supporting us. Because it’s an amazing thing to all of us and it means a lot to us to be able to hold concerts in different places. So thank you all for coming and supporting always and we would love to have an amazing and wonderful time tonight with you all.
Throughout the press conference, the girls were able to answer fluently in English and converse directly with the media. They were also very honest, humble and funny through the whole session. And we also saw how grateful they are for the support they’ve received despite their popularity and success. We can’t wait for The Wonder World Tour to begin!
