Chun Cui He 純萃喝 Taiwan milk tea craze sweeps across Singapore

31 July 2016, Singapore – Always not a person with sweet tooth, so when I was told that this nice bottled milk tea or latte (Chun Cui He 純萃喝) from Taiwan was brought into Singapore. Not only was it swept off the refrigerator shelves in ALL 7-elevens in Singapore; there were even queues formed to get their hands on this.

My logical brains tells me as usual that this is probably nothing but a fad from us over-enthusiastic Singaporeans. Just like how we can queue for hours for Bak Chor Mee (Pork Noodles), Hello Kitty (and cafe), and basically any free gifts being offered. Being the curious person I am, I set out on a journey with a friend in search of this mysterious Taiwan milk tea. You will find out why it’s so mysterious in a while.

As a new resident of the hip North-East, we discovered there was like about 4 7-eleven stores in this area; and we decided to cycle to all of them. We combed the first 3 and no sight of this famed milk tea, and the GPS does not show where to find them like how we can catch Pokemon in Pokemon Go. The mystery was unravelled in the last one, as we saw this notice at the door (of course not in the shelves).

We did not find the real thing, but got some tips for those who want’s a taste of this supposed “creamier” and “smoother” milk tea. How can we Singaporeans possibly tell the difference when most of the time we just join the longest queue thinking that it is good food? I for one is always disappointed by long queues.

  1. 7-elevens do their re-stocking between 3am – 5am daily, so be there “early” if you insist on having it now with the craze; probably just to boast that you have got your hands on it.
  2. I refuse to believe it, but a Facebook page was set up for people to share the availability of Chun Cui He milk tea in Singapore.
  3. I am pretty sure major retailers will start to bring this in or the fad will die off after 7-eleven increases it’s stock for this; so waiting it out is the best bet.

Anyway, the tea is retailing at SG$2.80 and new flavours will be in soon enough like the green tea. If it’s all about the boasting rights on social media and all, go ahead and try catch’em all in any way you can.
