Experience Singapore like a tourist on a budget at the heart of Orchard Road – Hotel Jen @ Orchard Gateway

21 December 2016, Singapore – Traveling during the December school holidays can be expensive, so a Singapore staycation could be a good alternative. Wanderlust Wednesday is here to show you how you can save on the air tickets, and enjoy a hotel stay in buzzing Christmas season Orchard road.

Our Shelter for 2 Days 1 Night – Hotel Jen @ Orchard Gateway

Before anything, it is important to inform the hotel that you will be arriving earlier (similar to a late checkout concept); and you could score an early check-in. We checked in at around 12pm, and started doing the routine “bed-bouncing” ritual within 10 minutes. Upon check-in do also request for a later check-out (with express check-out), so you do not have to rush packing your bags.

We chose to stay at the heart of Singapore (Orchard road), and this relatively new Hotel Jen @ Orchard Gateway proves the most value for money. A mere $200+ rate gave us a decent room at 17 floor overlooking the city. The hotel is just above the hip district of Somerset, in fact right above Orchard Gateway.

Nothing beats seeing the hotel for yourself, then to write about it. So take a look at it for yourself below:

Lunch at Tangs Market

Lunch is just the right timing, and looking for a “instagram-worthy” place for local food is of priority. We checked out at the rather new Tangs Market at the basement of Tangs in Orchard. It is a quick MRT stop away, or a short 15 mins stroll from Somerset. It has almost all of the local favourites like Laksa, Char Kway Teow, Hainan Curry Rice etc all in one place. Quality of food is nothing to shout about, but edible by our standards.

What follows lunch would be to immerse yourself in the wealth of shopping for Christmas in any of the malls of your choice. We hung around in ION Orchard like a tourist, and snacking on one of the hottest arrivals in town.

Dinner at MK Restaurant Singapore

Shopping in Singapore can be a tiring affair, with loads of walking and zero break. Before you knew it, it is dinner time; and there really are numerous dining options in the vicinity of Orchard. Singapore is a global food paradise, and I am not exaggerating it by saying you can find any kind of cuisine in Orchard.

Why we chose MK Restaurant?

Because we enjoy our steamboat, and this is right below the hotel with good quality of food and service.

A little stroll along the glittering Orchard road in Singapore during this Christmas season would be a great way to end the night; and to digest the food before heading back to enjoy the hotel.

Ending the night with a cheap facialinnisfree-second-skin-mask

No product placement is meant here, but with so many options available; we decided to moisturise the tired skin with a mask-pack. Hotel spas and facials costs a bomb, so we decided to DIY it ourself this time around.

The next day was pretty much spent on enjoying the hotel facilities. Start off with the mandatory hotel breakfast, which should come as part of the room. The breakfast was nothing fanciful, but all your basic offerings of an international breakfast is covered. However, we do liked the way the hotel has distributed the “water points” all around the breakfast restaurant.

We finished our 2 Days and 1 Night at the infinity pool on the 19th floor of the hotel. The pool has a beautiful cityscape, and a bar that serves barbeque at night. We can imagine how chilling by the poolside with some drinks being a nice experience.

Basically, there are cheap ways to enjoy a Singapore staycation; and we actually did not spend much apart from the room rates and food. Doesn’t it make sense to enjoy Singapore, when the majority of Singapore is out of the country for holidays?
