15 January 2012 – Having been to Singapore on various occasions in the past few years, this is actually the first time FT ISLAND is holding their full-scale concert, “2012 PLAY! FT ISLAND Concert in Singapore”, which was held at the Max Pavilion on the 15 of January.
Despite the sweltering heat, passionate and diehard fans of the 5-member band consisting of Lee Hongki, Choi Minhwan, Lee Jaejin, Song Seunghyun and Choi Jonghun have queued since early morning. It is no wonder that Hongki exclaimed later on during the concert, “I know Singapore is very hot and it is because of you!”
The band performed a total of 22 songs, whipping out hit songs one after another, such as “I Hope”, “Bing Bing Bing”, “Hello Hello”, “Love Love Love” and “Flower Rock”.
Throughout the concert, lead vocalist Hongki was dressed in a plain black shirt and a pair of eye-catching gold embellished pants, while the rest were decked in black suits except for drummer Minhwan, who was wearing a white shirt, which all the tops were traded for the concert tees towards the end of the concert.
FT ISLAND also performed acoustic versions of “Sunshine Girl”, “I Confess” and “Even Your Tears”, while sitting at the front of the stage on stools. This was where the talented Minhwan put aside his drumsticks for the microphone and belted out lines, captivating Primadonnas even further.
FT ISLAND conversed with their fans in English, showing their sincerity towards them and teasing them as well, such as when Hongki responded with a “I love you!” when asked about the next song that he would be performing. They also brought out the crowd by asking them how to say “I love you”, “I’m hungry” and “I miss you” in Korean, to which fans screamed out their respective Korean translations in unison.
The boys are known to the fans for often sprouting profanities and thus when Hongki yelled out “hey stupid!” randomly, it ignited massive laughter from the fans.
The atmosphere went up another notch with the introduction of rocker-edge tunes like “That Person in Shinsadong”, “I’ll Love Everything” and “Like a Doll”. During the song “Primadonna”, which was named after their fanclub, Hongki took a pentastick and waved it throughout on the stage like an excited boy.
Before the concert came to an end, FT ISLAND appeared from repeated chants for an encore to perform an additional of 3 more songs, “Love Sick”, “Bad Girl” and “Like A Bird”. With this, their first solo concert in Singapore came to an end as the boys thanked the fans and expressed their love again for them.
