The MTV European Music Awards 2012 has been held on November, 11th in Frankfurt (Germany). Every year, the event is held in a different country and rewards the artists who have had a successful year in Europe.
After Big Bang’s win in 2011, the 2012 edition of the MTV EMA has once again proved the growing success of Asian music on the European market. Both PSY and Hangeng have been nominated and hence invited to attend the ceremony.
The MTV EMA started with a red carpet ceremony where fans could get a glimpse of international stars such as Muse, No Doubt, Taylor Swift, and of course PSY, who was raised to international stardom with Gangnam Style. He later got an opportunity to sing his hit song on stage, and showed a sensational performance with the help of Heidi Klum, the MC of the ceremony.
After winning the “Best Music Video” award, he described himself as “still a rookie” and especially thanked the people who support him.
“Especially, my family. I would like to thank all of my family who got to live with such a selfish job, with a selfish guy. And for the last thing. I would like to appreciate the lady who decided to marry me six years ago.”
The Best Music Video award wasn’t submitted to votes, and the winner has been decided by the MTV EMA panel, unlike the “Best Worldwide Act” award won by Hangeng.
Hangeng has been nominated in this category after previous rounds against other famous asian acts (including Super Junior). The other nominees in this category were including Rihanna, Ahmed Soultan, Restart and Dima Bilan but Hangeng gathered the most votes. Upon receiving his award, he said: “I’m very proud that I’m able to achieve this international award even though I’m a Chinese artist. I love China, I love music, I love you!”. The award has been given to him by the Jonas Brothers.
Among the other winners of the MTV EMA 2012 are Taylor Swift with three awards (Best Female Artist, Best Concert and Best Look), Linkin Park, One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen etc. Seeing Psy and Hangeng among such artists shows that both K-Pop and C-Pop now have the potential to take over the world.
Thank you to MTV for inviting us to this event.
