What would you do if you encountered a pretty ghost? Equipped with her bubbly charm, youthfulness and humble character, this rising Korean actress is none other than Kim So Hyun. So Hyun was in Singapore for the first time last weekend for a press conference and meet and greet organised by Viu.
So Hyun who started her acting career a decade ago at the tender age of seven has now blossomed into a beautiful young teenage girl who is successfully making her transition into adult roles. Past works include appearances in popular dramas such as King of Baking, Kim Takgu, Moon Embraces the Sun, Who Are You: School 2015 and The Strange Housekeeper. Her latest work features her playing Kim Hyun-ji, a 19-year-old girl who passed away and made her return as a ghost in the supernatural drama to help other ghosts move on into the afterlife, Bring It On, Ghost (싸우자, 귀신아)
Once a child actress and now an elegant young lady, So Hyun was clad in a laced blue dress as she met with the Singapore media for the very first time.
Being her first visit to Singapore, So Hyun mentioned that was impressed with the clean streets and the warm welcome of her fans at the airport. She also sheepishly admitted that because she loves to eat, she read up about the food in Singapore and would like to try chili crab the most!
When asked about the scene where she sat on co-star Taecyeon’s back while he was doing push ups, she “felt sorry and was worried that it must have hurt” but she also said “when would I get the chance to do this again?” Seems like she’s just a fan girl, just like all of us!
Despite her puffy cheeks that contribute to the looks akin to a baby doll, So Hyun admitted that playing roles with a lot of aegyo (Korean for “a cute display of affection often done in a baby-like voice”) still prove to be a challenge for her. But she later added that as time passed, she felt less awkward and more at ease as she eased into her role of the young female ghost.
At the mention of Korean dramas, we musn’t forget the legendary kiss scenes. So Hyun found difficulty with kiss scenes at first but soon got more comfortable with doing the scenes and she credited this small success to Taecyeon’s energetic and friendly personality on set that brightens up the mood.
Due to the nature of the genre of the drama, the media asked So Hyun if there were any “uninvited guests” during the shoot. She talked about an incident where they replayed a scene they just shot and the sound of a girl crying softly could be heard, but only through the headphones. She later added that after the incident, the entire staff team were too scared to go home alone that night.
When she spoke about her future plans, So Hyun expressed the desire of wanting to star in a romantic comedy. She also named Yoo Seung Ho as the male actor she wants to work with the most. She also mentioned that she would be making a brief appearance on TvN drama Goblin and is still at the stage of choosing new scripts carefully. We hope that means we’ll be able to see her soon on the big screens!
10 of her lucky fans who are registered viewers on Viu had the golden opportunity to be in a group photo with So Hyun as well as receive a gift from her!
KAvenyou would like to extend our thanks to Viu for the media invitation.
