FT Island PLAY! with pure talent and passion in Malaysia

14 January 2012 – PLAY! FT Island was absolutely phenomenal! If you think their album tracks sounds perfect, wait till you see how much more talent these boys have installed for you in their live performance. No catchy dance moves or flashy clothing, just pure talent and passion for music. FT Island certainly put on one of the best rock concerts, ever.

The night kicked off with FT Island’s popular hit, ‘I Hope’ and the crowd went wild as soon as the music started playing. Throughout the show, the indoor stadium was filled with the band’s superb music playing and Hongki’s incredibly powerful vocal. After the second track, the boys greeted the fans in English. Lead vocalist, Hongki, took this opportunity to tell the fans how much he missed them and let the fans know how grateful he is for finally being able to throw a full-length concert here in Malaysia. Each members of the band also got a chance to show off their English as they take turns to communicate to the crowd during short intersections between songs. The two catchy title tracks, ‘Hello Hello’ and ‘Love Love Love’ got the whole stadium singing along.

These title tracks were then followed by 4 Japanese rock songs that hyped up the crowd. And finally after performing 10 songs in a row, the boys went backstage to change. A comedic yet meaningful short clip was then played, showcasing the individuality of each member and their adorable off-stage characters that differ from their on-stage charismatic performances. The short video ended with a quote, saying that “Even though they are not perfect, but they are pure and they have passion. And they’re ready to fly again.”

Shortly afterwards, the boys took the stage again but this time with acoustic guitars, acoustic drum and a shaker. All 5 of them changed into casual looking t-shirts and jeans and started playin beautiful acoustic tracks, ‘Sunshine Girl’ and ‘I Confess’ that melted everyone’s hearts. During ‘I Confess’, all 5 boys showcased their lovely voice and impressive vocal skills. This song undoubtedly became one of the most memorable songs of the concert. Quirky Hongki later decides to test the fans on their Korean language, saying words like ‘Annyeonghaseyo’, ‘Keurigo Pogoshippeoyo’ and even ‘Saranghaeyo’ in Korean, to which Primadonnas immediately responded with a wave of screams and squeals.

Later, Hongki that with his stunning vocals once again proved his ability to sing and capability to reach extremely high notes flawlessly through ‘A Bad Girl’ and left everyone speechless. On ‘You are Smiling like a Doll’, Hongki, the free spirit who was leading the show with super energetic performances throughout the concert started shaking his butt and entertaining the crowd. The song ended with a jaw-dropping drum solo by the extremely talented maknae, Minhwan.

Leader JongHoon that was overflowing with charisma also had a lot of noticeably electric guitar solos throughout the concert, which he successfully played every note to perfection. The charming JaeJin on the bass blew the crowd away with his lovely voice that goes perfectly with his gorgeous smile and bubbly personality. Last but not least, multitalented and sincere guitarist SeungHyun has also been amazing, showcasing his ability to play any types of guitar, to rap and even sing!

When it came to ‘Primadonna’, the song that was dedicated to FT Island fans, Minhwan said that he hope FT Island can come to Malaysia again in near future, and that he will not forget every single moment of that day. He ended his speech with the saying, ‘Until we meet again’. Hongki also expressed his gratitude towards Primadonnas that attended by making a giant heart shape with his arms and said ‘I Love You’ with a warm smile across his face.

On encore, the boys appeared in official concert t-shirts and comforted the fans with their classic debut title, ‘Love Sick’, followed by ‘Until You’re Back’. The concert eventually came to an end with their latest single, ‘Like Birds’ and the boys once again showed their cheerful personality as they danced around the stage thanking Primadonnas for showing their support. They even pushed out a big box full of presents from the fans where the playful duo, JaeJin and Hongki took out a gift to show it off to the crowd. The boys then did one last bow to the crowd and wave their goodbyes unwillingly as they slowly walk towards the backstage.

Overall, this has been an extraordinary concert that is definitely one that you shouldn’t have missed. With that being said, we really want to thank the 5 boys of FT Island for their dedication and effort in putting up such an amazing concert and for their enthusiastic performance that has made this night an unforgettable Play!
