Gen Neo: Singing, songwriting and things in between

After his first successful solo showcase in Singapore, one would expect this prolific singer-songwriter Gen Neo to hold a huge party with his friends and drink the night away. But first, he sat down with KAvenyou for an intimate and honest interview.

He might sound like any typical Singaporean to you but he’s far from that. With over 40 songs under his belt, he’s the mastermind behind what might be some of your favourite K-pop hits by Super Junior M, f(x) and many more.

Although he admitted that he’s always the most comfortable in English, he has since embarked on a journey of his own, going back to where he found love for genuine music –– Mandopop. Citing Khalil Fong, David Tao and Jay Chou as some of his favourites, he always felt that the mandopop industry could explored a little more. He strives to fill that gap with his unique genre of R&B and the same sincere heart he has always had for his music.

But when asked who he wanted to meet if he could meet anyone, he excitedly mentioned producers such as The Underdogs, Doctor Luke and Malay, truly sticking close to his roots as a music producer.

Determined to provide his guests with the best experience, not even the tiniest detail could escape his eyes. The event poster, set arrangement and even his music video was all lead by the man himself.

Fans who are hopeful of seeing him dancing some flashy choreography, you’ll be disappointed as he has no plans to venture in that direction. However, you can look forward to more good music and original content from Gen as well as collaborations if any suitable artists come by.
