19 February 2014 – Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, members of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan are veterans in the rap game. Originating from New York City, the two rappers played a key role in defining the distinctive East Coast rap sound and influencing the rap genre globally over the past 2 decades. After the release of “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 chambers)” in 1993, the Clan’s highly influential debut album, Rae and Ghostface followed up with their groundbreaking solo albums “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” (1995) and “Ironman” (1996). Now they touch down in Singapore for their highly anticipated debut on March, 13 at Zouk Club.
The promoter of the event Felix Huang (Recognize Studio) and Wayne Liu (KoFlow) see a huge potential in bringing high caliber Hip Hop acts to Singapore:
“We want to bring the sound from the golden era of Hip Hop music to Singapore. Our mission is to offer solid gold music to the real audiences.”
Raekwon and Ghostface Killah therefore mark a perfect start for the Solid Gold event series. Supporting acts Kevin Lester, Shigga Shay and the Radikal Forze ensure this night is to be one of the finest highlights in Singapore’s 2014 Hip Hop concert calendar.
In conjunction with the current application phase for Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo in October this year (applications close March, 18), Wu-Tang founding member Raekwon will also be guest speaker during a Red Bull Music Academy session in Zouk’s Winebar before he and Ghostface storm the club’s main stage “tiger style”.
A select group of Singaporean MCs, DJs, music makers & lovers of all genres are invited to an intimate lecture with Raekwon, who is about to open his precious treasure chest of 20 years in the music business – personal exchange and advise from the notorious East Coast rapper that is invaluable for every aspiring musician.
The Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) itself has been buzzing around the world over the last fifteen years, the same year the Clans “Wu-Tang Killa Bees” hit the record stores 1998. From this day on this worldwide long-term music initiative, has started a yearly tradition to gather renowned artists, music producers and selected musicians from all over the world for two solid weeks in a host city each year to share their knowledge and experience with participants – a fruitful exchange between genres and generations, which has always been central to the RBMA philosophy. Former lecturers who include Nile Rodgers, Bootsy Collins, Q-Tip, Sly & Robbie, Chuck D or Rakim should sound like pure magic in the ears of potential Academy participants from Singapore who can look forward to various internationally renowned lecturers in 2014.
What began in the backyard of an unassuming Berlin warehouse resulted in a yearly venture, bringing music festivals and workshops to every continent. Red Bull Music Academy puts on some 500 night time events a year, each one intended to challenge and inspire. In this spirit Raekwon’s lecture and the concert together with Ghostface is one event that will get Hip Hop heads nodding to the realness.
