Hong Kong – Second generation K-pop boyband, SHINee, held their 5th SHINee World Concert tour in Hong Kong this May. Being their second time holding a solo concert in Hong Kong since their last concert tour (SWC in 2012), it’s no surprise why the AsiaWorld Arena was filled full with excited fans during the 2.5 hour concert!
The 5 member group has come a long way, recently celebrating their 9th year anniversary, making them one of the longest promoting boyband in K-pop. Members, Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho and Taemin belted out hits after hits to a roaring crowd and we were there to experience every magical moment!
SHINee, known for their contemporary style and trend, didn’t fail to hit our expectations in pleasing our ears AND eyes. The 5 boys started the concert sharply at 8PM with their Intro song, Hitchhiking, and continued belting to hits like “Married To The Music”, “Why So Serious” and “Juliette”.
The group then greeted their fans in fluent Mandarin. While Jonghyun expressed his love for Hong Kong’s night scenery and good food, Minho explained that the Hong Kong tour was added because even though they had been in Hong Kong a few times since 2012, but there were all for joint concerts or other performances, thus, they really wanted to add Hong Kong into this year’s tour.
The group also shared jokes with their fans entertained despite the language barrier when Taemin asked who came when he performed in the Arena the last MAMA where he performed his solo. When all the fans said they came, the cheeky maknae said “Really? I don’t think so!”. The members ended their first speech hoping all fans would enjoy themselves and receive good energy from this concert, how sweet!
The crowd truly had the time of their lives jamming to the song ‘Prism’ and their debut title ‘Replay’. Everyone was treated to a well-made VCR for Beautiful (아름다워) before continuing with songs such as “Trigger, Sherlock, Ring Ding Dong and Lucifer”. Taemin also performed his solo, “Goodbye” in Korean version of his popular Japanese single.
The 5 members took turns in 2 (Key and Minho) and 3 (Onew, Jonghyun, Taemin) to change outfits while the other team interact with the fans.
During the short 5-6 minutes talk, Jonghyun shared his thoughts on Taemin’s upcoming 1st Japan concert and his upcoming ‘The Letter’ solo concert, saying the both of them are preparing well and asking for fans to look forward. While Onew mentioned about his new drama role which are in talks, Key also shared that he has been filming his new drama, ‘Look Out’ which premiered on 22 May, receiving good response from the public and critics alike.
The group then treated the fans to a series of ballads such as “Farewell my love, Aside, Don’t let me go” and the group’s older hyungs, Onew and Jonghyun sang their duet “Please don’t go”, making several fans shed touching tears.
The concert was brought to its final segment with more titles like ‘View, Ready or not, Savior and Everybody”. The thoughtful and loving Hong Kong fans prepared an encore event to sing Happy Birthday to celebrate SHINee’s 9th birthday (anniversary) and yelled SHINee until the boys came back on stage, all 5 of them beaming with pride at their fans.
The group continued with their recent chart-topping title “1 of 1”, continuing with Dream Girl, and circling the venue on pushcarts for “So Amazing”, and last but not least, “An Encore” before ending their concert officially. It was hard to NOT fall in love with SHINee after witnessing their professionalism on stage after this concert.
Hong Kong is the 3rd stop of SWV (1st – Seoul, Korea. 2nd – Jakarta, Indonesia), and SHINee will be continuing their SWV tour in Taipei, Taiwan on 12 June 2017 and Bangkok, Thailand on 24 June 2017.
