15 December 2011 – The Butter Factory with Play Projects recently launched a brand new K-Pop party night, GAJA!, which plays every Thursday night. On 15 December, performance directors, BEATBURGER from SM Entertainment were invited from Seoul to kick-start the launch party.
For fans of SMTown, BEATBURGER is a familiar name. BEATBURGER are the producers and choreographers behind the amazing stage performances and slick dance choreography of BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD, SHINee and f(x).
The BEATBURGER duo, comprising of Sim Jae Won and Gregory Hwang, recently participated in the 2011 Global Korea Gathering in last October. This electronic music world event features both DJs and live acts from around the globe and Korea. BEATBURGER having started their gigs in small clubs in their early days around Korea were happy and honoured to be part of this worldwide festival, alongside famous foreign club acts.
BEATBURGER has been in the entertainment industry for over a decade. When asked about the booming popularity of K-Pop globally and the contributing factor behind this, Gregory mentioned that more K-Pop groups are embarking on World Tour concerts.
An example is SMTown concert. During SMTown concert in LA, they were surprised at the overwhelming response from foreign fans, especially the fact that 80% of the fans who attended are non-Koreans. He further added that collaboration with famous American and other foreign music producers as well as the hard work put in by the artists are also success factors to K-pop’s global popularity.
Fans may wonder how the duo develops new fresh ideas for each SM Entertainment’s idol groups. Jaewon shared that after the music producers have decided on the concept, the duo would understand the music and thinks of how to deliver the most important point through the dance. They also ensured that the dance is easy to follow. No doubt, that some of these dance moves are popular choices in K-Pop dance competitions.
No stranger to the night scene in Seoul clubs, BEATBURGER together with Stephen the guitarist from the rock band Schizo, sure knows how to work the crowd up.
The party started with a dance break from the dancers dancing to the tune of SNSD “The Boys”. The duo of BEATBURGER followed suit, showing their polished moves to the medley of Mr Simple, Bonamana and Sorry Sorry much to the cheers of the party crowd that night.
The high-energy 2 hour set of electro beats and K-Pop favorites got everyone on the dance floor, partying the night away. Jaewon spinning it up on the DJ set, Gregory pouring vodka shots right from the bottle to the eager dance floor and Stephen cranking it up on his guitar towards the end; it’s sure a HIGH way to end the night.
Just from their tweets, we know that BEATBURGER really enjoyed themselves and wishes to come back to Singapore again. Who know if they will be back here sooner? We sure hope they will!
