Take a break from Mookata, and say hi to Jim Jum Claypot (จิ้มจุ่ม), a popular Isaan (Thai Northeastern) dish which is served in a claypot over charcoal.

Opened by the owner of Mookata Thai restaurant in Singapore, Aroy Jing Jing specialises in Thai desserts and snacks, and it has recently introduced Jim Jum Claypot Steamboat Set into its menu. What’s special about this steamboat is that it actually uses hot burning charcoal to cook your steamboat, unlike those stoves in normal steamboat eateries.

A Jim Jum Claypot Steamboat Set (2 pax) includes the following:

  • Pork collar
  • Squid
  • Pork belly
  • Fish balls
  • Fish fillet
  • Golden mushrooms
  • Chinese cabbage
  • Kangkong
  • Egg

As compared to its counterpart (we’re talking about you, Mookata), Jim Jum Claypot is a much healthier alternative, since it has lots of vegetables and also, you won’t emerge smelling like barbecued meat after your meal! I was hoping that glass noodles would be included in the set which sadly wasn’t, but it is available as a top-up option and my table promptly ordered it to satisfy our growling tummies.

Fans of Mookata restaurant will also be pleasantly surprised to know that their famous 3-level spicy chilli sauce is available here as well, on top of their special dipping sauce for the steamboat. I had a hard time deciding which sauce should I dip my meat at!

Basil leaves are also provided for you to enhance the taste of the chicken broth. After adding all the ingredients into the claypot, the broth was really rich and flavourful, and it was so yummy that we kept refilling the soup!

There are further top-up options if you’re feeling really really hungry, such as these 2 plates of meat (yum!). Remember not to overcook the meat or they’ll become tough.

After polishing down the steamboat, do remember to order some Thai desserts! Aroy Jing Jing offers a variety of desserts, such as Coconut Ice Cream, Mango Sticky Rice, Red Ruby and Thai Chendol.
